Re: IBM 3278 Beam Spring restoration

I only found this great restoration thread now. Had I seen it sooner, I would have been better mentally prepared for the disgusting foam removal task. :o  One thing I would like to add (and haven't mentioned in my 5251 restoration thread): When I worked on the main inner part (opening/takin...

A /deViBE/tty double

Finally I could finish the second Vortex ViBE with /dev/tty caps in "Beige". Initially I would have preferred the "Beige" version, but had started with "Triumph", because these were easier to acquire. But meanwhile I have grown quite fond of the Triumph version and find the Beige one actually a bit ...

Re: Need help with IBM Model F soarers converter configuration

So I've tested it with my Model F XT now and it works fine. I don't think it matters if it's an AT or XT in this case. In your post you left out the first line "macroblock". But that can't be the reason, because then the error message would complain about line 1 or 2 and not 20. But is there really ...

Re: Need help with IBM Model F soarers converter configuration

I didn't get my Model F "out of storage" to test it, but this should be the necessary commands for the programing of the keys 1 - 4. I couldn't find any key codes for fast forward or rewind, though. (All I see are "previous track" and "next track".) macroblock macro 1 CTRL -SHIFT -ALT -GUI PUSH_META...

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

And to finish my thread off - a few pictures with a new set of German keycaps, which I got through swapping with a well-known forum member.
They're a bit yellowed, but I simply call them ivory-coloured = problem solved.

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

Hi Luca, In the end it was about 2 mm thick. But I fear that information isn't worth much, unless you have foam with the same firmness. (And as I wrote - I can't say what kind of foam it is and where it came from.) All I can say is that it's quite firm. (Some people write, that they're using 2 mm th...

Re: Thinner keycaps on UK Model F XT?

While there are quite a few differences to tell an UK and US made XT keyboard apart - including the shape of the keycaps (US made ones usually having slightly rounder corners than UK made ones), the thickness is not such a clear indication and seems to vary quite a bit. I would say my experience lea...

BTW: The ISO enter is a "properly sized" enter. :D
The classic "Big Ass Enter" is found on keyboards, that are not quite sure, what layout they want to be - like the Model F AT.

Re: Soarer's converter and FN key

Yeah, that's a bit tricky. PUSH_META saves the information, which modifiers are pressed at the moment. CLEAR_META LSHIFT "declares" the LSHIFT as not-pressed (otherwise the later "PRESS F11" would actually send "SHIFT F11", because you're holding the SHIFT key down at that moment) POP_ALL_META resto...

MT3 /dev/tty - beige numpad / blanks / international kit

I'm looking for several MT3 /dev/tty kits (in Europe preferably):

- big blanks
- small blanks

(and international kits form round 2 would always be welcome)

At least for a Model F XT, these two settings are necessary to "fix" the ISO specific keys you mentioned. remapblock BACKSLASH EUROPE_2 BACK_QUOTE BACKSLASH endblock In case you're not yet happy with your configuration, if could be worth a try. Sun space saving keyboard "Compact 1" (from 1994/95)

As teased a few days ago, here comes the cleaned Sun keyboard, which I saved from the bin, because of its space saving appeal. First the positive aspect: The looks (I really like that curved simple design) a02.jpg a03.jpg a04.jpg a05.jpg a06.jpg A nice quirky touch - the key that usually only shows ...

Very nice. Do you have some more pictures of the case? That's not the usual 5251 case, that I know.

(And I just saw, that there's no picture of an 5251 in the Wiki at all! I'll try to change that.)

Rattling in the sense, that the switches don't sit tight and can be wiggled around: Yes, that is fixed now.
If you mean rattling in terms of sound: Sound was pretty much unchanged by the restauration.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

Ok then - I'll clean it and report back. :) - it has a slight rubbery bump, so my description of the feel isn't completely accurate, but it came from the fact that the bottoming-out feel is very soft and spongy - the legends could be a very very dark purple or blue, but maybe just black - the mouse ...

We're currently closing the office, where I work. There came up this "Sun SSK" keyboard:

The key feel is quite awful - like poking a mattress, but the SSK layout looks interesting.
What do you think? Should I give it some care and post more pictures or is it trash/not interesting?

Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

Here I have a few pictures of my 5251 restorations from a few months ago. But maybe it's stil...
