Re: IBM 5251 Beamspring Xwhatsit converter key mapping problem help.

I would check, if the connector of the xwhatsit is lined up correctly with the pcb. The connector is wider than necessary. So it can be attached too far to the left or right. If this happens it can short two or more contacts, which might have such a strange effect.

Re: House mites (Glycyphagus domesticus) - Anyone else had them?

I don't think you're a freak and I sympathise with you.
The thing is: I (and maybe a lot of others) am at the moment convinced, that I'm not affected and want it to remain that way. So I don't want to start looking and - on the contrary - would like to forget everything about it.

Re: Post your desktop.

All very true. I was often torn between real swords and the display swords. I would have given an arm and a leg for a real, but exact replica of Hadhafang. Unfortunately not possible for a sword maker, because he has no license. :( But still - I did take a good look at the tang construction on every...

Re: Post your desktop.

Mine mainly consists of LOTR merchandise swords + one made by Weta themselves in 2002 like the actual movie props. In 2002? I remember the sword-maker for the movies made a small number of very expensive swords for sale, but that was definitely a few years later. Before that there I think two offic...

Re: Post your desktop.

@vometia Thank you! Yes, I immediately noticed Glamdring in the back - lovely! But the others look great as well. All very tasteful. The umbrella stand works great. Maybe you could just wrap a long strip of soft black leather around the rough metal rings. Makes a lot less mess than filing metal and ...

Re: Post your desktop.

I'm very impressed by the bookcase and The Monolith, but your mentioning of "one of my swords" also piqued my interest. It's getting quite "off-topic", but I'm now wondering how that sword collection looks like. (Mine mainly consists of LOTR merchandise swords + one made by Weta themselves in 2002 l...

Model-F-XT clone with Cherry switches

Hi, I'm looking for a Model-F-XT clone with Cherry switches. Important details: - layout exactly like Model-F-XT (small left Shift, 2u vertical Enter (no BAE!), numpad-"+" may differ) - consistently stepped keys (as on original) - works with Soarer's converter - case could be yellowed, but should ot...

Re: IBM Model M with gold square badge?

The picture you posted is already very good. And I admit, that in the lower two corners I can't see any hints of a sticker, but on the top two corners I'm quite sure to see the edges of a sticker. But I don't want to push you into trying to remove it. If it sits so well and evenly, it's quite ok as ...

Danke.

Re: IBM Model M with gold square badge?

I had no issues with 3 protective films, either. All the more I was surprised to see that at the forth a little bit of the legend stayed on the film.
So I just wanted to mention it: Better safe than sorry.

Re: IBM Model M with gold square badge?

I think there might be still a protective sticker on it, which has yellowed.
Should you try to peel it off, check very carefully, if some of the IBM lettering gets off too. Maybe it would be good to warm up the sticker with a hair dryer beforehand.

NCR-06.jpg A NCR H0150-STD1-01-17 keyboard (for NCR Decision Mate IV or V) The build quality and the feeling of the "RAFI RS 76 M" switches (orange) are nothing to write home about, but I really like the look of these keycaps. They're quite thin, but otherwise they wouldn't fit over the switches. N...

As I wrote at the end of my initial post - The 5251 keyboard looks a bit bloated in front of a 27" Apple Display. In front of a 13" inch display it's fine though - provided you choose the original terminal ;) : 5251-b-1.jpg 5251-b-2.jpg 5251-b-3.jpg 5251-b-4.jpg 5251-b-5.jpg 5251-b-6.jpg And if you ...

Re: Trends in keyboard design: Who started what?

Nice! I have a soft spot for the "Bigfoot". It's such an elegant keyboard, although its USP - the low height - is somewhat lost, if its extremely long feet are extended. And using these feet, seems to have been the norm as I have seen in this promotional video for the System/36 (https://www.youtube....

The 3178 should definitely be a model F. I would think IBM got confused with their stickers in this case.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I don't quite understand, what you all are talking about. On Model F XT/ATs there is a space between "Pg Up" AND "Pg Dn", only at "Pg Dn" it's a bit smaller.
"PgUp" and "PgDn" without space screams "Model-M".

I don't think so. The only important thing is, when you plug it in again, to first connect the converter to the keyboard and then the converter to the pc.

Re: IBM model F XT not working suddenly

In case you use USB extension cables: You should try it without them. I had a "Tinkerboy" Soarer's converter from the Philippines and it seemed to be sensitive to cable length. If that's not it, try to move the original keyboard cable into different positions and check constantly, if some keypresses...

Ah, ok. So if you would prefer AltGr - Esc - e (without the FN) to type a "è", it's not a problem. (still a keypress more than the sophisticated Windows route, but hey ;) ). To program <ESC> = "`" <Shift>+<ESC> = logical negation thingy <FN> + <ESC> = ESC you would have to do: - choose layer - <FN> ...
