An Aeropress makes a good espresso-like cup without much acidity, so it might be a nice intro to black coffee.
I use an Aeropress, it's pretty good. I don't get the fancy schmancy expensive coffee though, I'm fine with stuff like Lavazza and stuff from Asda.

Re: Redmaus Megasale

Just how clean are the legends on those XT modules? only issue with mine is the "smudged" legends, although an unused module certainly wouldn't hurt. This is one of the sets I received. Not cleaned or anything. https://i.imgur.com/J8JtPx0.jpg I may be a little biased but sharp and clean lettering o...

Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?

I'm going to assume the hammering apart and hammering back into place is what's possibly bending the metal and introducing an inconsistent feel to the board. It's driving me nuts. It wasn't as bad on the first AT I got, where I bent the tabs back instead of hammering the plates apart. My current me...

I have no foam on one of my Model Fs. Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?

It's worth noting that pinginess is to do with the springs, and not usually the condition of the board. I don't know why, but the pitch and volume of the ping differs with every Model F keyboard. It's fascinating to me, but I never seem to get the pingy ones. In my experience, Model F keyboards don...

Re: Why do you need foam on your model f?

Foam is extremely important. Every Model F is different in terms of feel and sound, but generally you can tell straight away when the foam is bad. Several UK Model F XTs I've bought all had a type of foam with a white "skin" on one side, but this variety always disintegrates with age. With two of th...

Regarding the NOS F XT with the cut cable: Orihalcon or someone else who has opened up F XT units before, please confirm that those "loose" cables (those numbering 50-ish in an earlier post) are indeed the correct ones for it. They are Model F AT cables. Too bad. A friend of mine has an F XT with a...

Re: IBM Model F 122 "restored" and bolt-modded

This is true. The F122 feels noticeably loose in the middle when you reassemble it with new foam with no screws. The FXT and FAT feel a lot crisper with new foam as they have much fewer rows and height to the whole module. Even the XT, none of my foam replacements worked. The closest one was this r...

Re: IBM Model F 122 "restored" and bolt-modded

Why does one bolt-mod an F? Bolt-mod on an M is to replace failed heat staking, F has no heat stakes and operates on a different principle. What does it do? Because these fucking things never feel good after reassembling with new foam. Ever. I had no choice. This is true. The F122 feels noticeably ...

Re: Tautness of keyboard cases and sound

Screws and nuts with washers are capable of compressing plates far more than sliding force fits with tabs. Screws need only be tightened to replicate the original compression. As with a Model M "bolt mod" I advocate looser rather than tighter, so start loose and tighten only as much as necessary. T...

Tautness of keyboard cases and sound

Hi guys, I'm just wondering what the best way would be to get the best acoustics in a keyboard case. I'm messing around with the screw tightness of an IBM Model F 122, and every time I put the case back together, some parts of the keyboard sound muffled. It sounds looser. If I tighten all the screws...
