Re: Issues with soarer's converted model F XT
The first thing to check would be to make sure that the screw that mounts the PCB to the plate is nice and tight. I had the same problem that you're describing and what worked for me was connecting the plate ground line to the ground pin on the converter. I mentioned this in a thread once and I thi...

Re: Issues with soarer's converted model F XT
yeah, i built the soarer's converter. i figured this was the cause, because moving it around will sometimes fix the issue. How do i ground the keyboard?snacksthecat wrote: ↑14 Apr 2019, 21:00I think it sounds like a grounding issue. Did you make the Soarer's converter?

Issues with soarer's converted model F XT
I recently purchased an F XT off ebay and set to work cleaning and converting it. The board had a sticker inside that indicated the board was repaired in the summer of 1985. It seems the foam had been replaced with a much more durable closed-cell foam, which hasn't degraded much at all. The repairs ...
Re: ISO users
My main keyboard is a weird mix of ISO and ANSI (Bigass enter and long left shift). i honestly prefer it to standard ANSI.

Datalux Spacesaver Restored
I found this 2006 datalux board in a trash pile at work back in June, but i could never get it working quite right. I kept it because i loved the shape and layout, and it is technically mechanical(cherry ML short throw). It just ended up in my box of dead boards. For some reason yesterday both my cu...

the answer for me is nnnnnnyyyyeesss? i dont really know. I actually built a 60% recently and went for blank black PBT caps so i could force myself to learn to touch type. It worked sort of, basically i do a cross between hunt and peck and touch typing, but i still use the homing bumps and the homer...

A colleague found three IBM model M keyboards and some unidentified (and worse for wear) keyboard in a house that is being torn down. They're 122 key terminal model M's, with two having stickers at the back still, model 1390702, manufactured in the UK in 1988. Did these use AT connectors, since the...

my lubricant of choice is "Finishline Extreme Fluro". it's just standard teflon grease but it's a good deal cheaper than most of the other name brand keyboard lubes and works just as well if not a little better thanks to the easy applicator nozzle. please please please dont use WD-40. please. I see ...

Linearizing White Alps
I recently acquired and restored a nice ortek MCK-142pro board with white alps, and i love it to death. Unfortunately, even after cleaning and restoring the switch leaves, i find that SKCM whites are not to my taste. I prefer clicky switches with a tactile bump more towards the middle as opposed to ...

Probably indeed a clone, but the only thing that niggles me is that it's too good. Is the case the same as original IBM or different? Any molding differences? If they're the same, it might be a refurbishment issue, maybe drop-in replacements. That would explain the different dates. Like, a school m...

its crazy that something like this exists with no definitive origin. i have compiled a list of things that could count towards its authenticity or otherwise. Genuine: 1)the plastic work required to reshape an existing shell to fit that shape is crazy complex, and a custom case that looks that good w...

go to "Change your mouse settings" in windows 10, click additional mouse options on the right, go to pointer option, and crank the fuck out of that pointer speed slider. Also, turning off the "enhance pointer precision" thing helps a lot too. I just picked up a CST trackball mouse yesterday and i've...

I think I want to try to trade this board for a new project, ideally something weird, that I haven't tried before, and with more keys. I don't really care if it's new or vintage. Maybe someone has a 142-key monstrosity and they would prefer a more minimalist keyboard like this. Actually, funny you ...

yeah 99% chance its the membrane traces fslice outlined. Also, its a little bit more work but i'd highly recommend a bolt mod over a screw mod for this guy. The screw mods are unreliable, feel kinda funky, and are very hard to undo and redo multiple times without ruining the barrel plate. Man that's...

You reshaped the click leaves? Were the switches worn out and uneven in sound and feel? I have a couple of used SKCM White ALPS and I plan to restore them. I wonder how can I re-bend the click leaves in a uniform way across the board to restore the click and tactility. yeah i was able to get them p...

I like the look of these boards. A downside for me is the ISO-type Enter key arrangement. If it were US-ANSI, I would definitely want one. Are the white Alps in this board bamboo (no slits) or pine (slits in the top housing)? It seems like bamboo alps based on the lettering on the top housing, but ...
