Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Tomorrow, if the weather allows, I'll pick some new foam and put everything back together. Then I'll start checking (again) at the jumpers, the controller and all that.

Thank you so much for your help so far, I'll keep you posted.

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Soarer's: As far as I know, bigfoot doesn't have a full 'controller' that would convert to a serial port. Instead it only has the analog circuitry, that you have to drive with a parallel bus. So it will not work with Soarer's Converter , but it will work with Soarer's Controller , which is differen...

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

You might want to check out https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48950.0, especially the posts that mention using the jumper pins. I would like to know what the model number of the keyboard. In the Geekhack thread, there's "EC998852" labeled on the PCB. I'm pretty sure that's the same number that w...

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Aye, everything looks okay. I’d be tempted to upgrade to an Xwhatsit controller, but you’ve a daunting bit of chopping to do first: either all those little traces or the PCB itself! Before you get destructive, does anyone know if this type of board (and therefore IBM controller) is known to work co...

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Well... already open. I doesn't look half bad. Not much dirt to speak of (haven't done any cleaning when I took the pictures), foam is degraded but not as much as I thought. Anyway, I'll clean it up, new foam... I'll let you know how it goes. Still debating if I should repaint the mounting plate. Lo...

Here's a coupble of pictures of how it looks as of now. I'll take it apart, give it a good clean, new foam and then I'll put it back together and try again.

Re: Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Delicate? I’d rate (my beloved) Model Fs as hardy tanks among keyboards! They aren’t as flaky as your trigger word implies. Tries to calm down. ;) You ever been inside an F ? I’d suggest taking a peek inside this board to check for flaky foam and general condition. It’s a relatively simple procedur...

Model F BigFoot faulty board.

Hello everyone, first and foremost, thanks for your time. I've got this lovely Model F BigFoot that I bought cheap (2nd hand of course) and I trying to make it work. I've restored a Model F XT in the past and succesfully made a Soarer's Coverter out of a ProMicro. This time though... no such luck. B...

Re: Issues with a model F

Silly question... In what condition is your keyboard? Something worth doing always with old electronics, take it apart and check how are all the capacitors. In the Model F is real easy just a couple of screws, careful when touching the PCB, they are somewhat fragile to static discharges, so touch th...

See my video about lubing them, it includes a sound test/comaprision. h5wRZZhmD9EU Well for some reason there is no way I can watch the video, but doing some digging in youtube I think I find it. It's the one from VintKeys right? Pretty good, I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks!

As you can see in the photo, that switch is pretty nasty. That's the one that felt the worse, so I'm not expecting the rest to be that bad.

Best way to lube NBM Linear Space Invaders

Hello everyone. Today I got a Hi-Tek RT-102 with linear Space Invaders. It looks very VERY clean and that is because the previous owner had cleaned it. It is however scratchy as hell. I know that this switches have a tendency to bind quite a lot but damn, it does feel messy when typing, and even pre...

Re: Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

Hello everyone! Yes, its been a very very loooooong time since last time I posted, but as you know, I had to order new Pro Micros (mine was apparently busted) and when they finally arrived I was already on something else. Now I took out of the box the BigFoot and give it another try. Now the Pro Mic...

Re: Typing Demo XL - Kidtech My First Keyboard (blister keys)

I think you have a need of finding new ways of making yourself suffer... Don't worry, we'll make you a keyboard that's ortholinear, has an "ergonomic case", with TV remote like switches and caps, and that is connected to a metallic bracelet so it shocks you every time you press a key to let you know...

Re: Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

I might be wrong but I don't recall it showing up as "Soarer's converter". Does it show up when you run lsusb? Try connecting a keyboard to it and seeing if it works. I think it will. It doesn't appear when running lsusb, but it does appear on the emergent notification on Win10 and in certain comma...

https://i.imgur.com/bLwRmTb.jpg Yesterday I finished replacing the original switch tops (top housing, slider, spring, and click leaf) in my Omnikey 101 with NOS pine white ones. Re: Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

I dunno, but I bought literally that exact same one (four of them, actually) and they all work fine as converters. Are you wiring it correctly? Maybe there's a short somewhere and it's resetting itself constantly, or yours is faulty. If you plug a Pro Micro with either the controller or converter f...

Re: Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

Ok so yeah it does seem like it's flashing fine, but one thing to keep in mind is that the Bigfoot needs a controller, not a converter. I believe that requires a special .hex file/firmware, but I might be wrong. You are not wrong, that's the file that is supposed to work. However, I also attempted ...

Re: Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

They're finicky when it comes to flashing. It's good you're familiar with linux though. Since it's way easier to do it on that os. All necessary steps are here: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?t=8448 I do it this way: 1. Pro Micro connected to check the device name in terminal. 2. Disconnect ...

Help making a Soarer's controller with a ProMicro

Hi everyone, first of all, thanks for reading! Well, some time ago (6 months ago or so) I made a Soarer's adapter for a Model F XT and it works flawlessly. Now I got a BigFoot, so I'm trying to do the same, but I'm running with a little issue. If I didn't understood badly, making a controller or a c...

IBM Model F BigFoot... 8521

Hello everyone, hope you are doing well. So, I got a Model F 8521, a model that certainly is not that popular as I thought it would be. Re: IBM Model F key gets a bit stuck

as you know the model F's aren't exactly the easiest to take apart. For what it's worth, the XT is by far the easiest to take apart and put back together. Back in the day I refurbished several of them by hand without resorting to clamps. I previously thought that the AT and XT would be the same to ...
