I quite like how the "key caps use LCD displays for all the vowels, so they can automatically adjust over the years to reflect ongoing vowel shifts while allowing you to keep typing phonetically." Clearly a lot of thought went into the design process.

Re: Mechanical boards that are/were made /marked towards *nix?

What exactly makes a keyboard a "Linux" keyboard? The absence of a Windows key? If I change my Win keys to "Super", "OS", "System" or that Tux penguin logo, does it become a Linux keyboard?

So, in theory you'd only keep the case, right? Sure, why not?

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

Copy, Cut and Paste use the letters C, X and V. I am not aware of a national layout that would position these letters in a different place. (Ctrl-Z is a different story, but that's got nothing to do with INS.) F Keyboard BDS 5237:1978 ANSI X4.22-1983 Obviously I was talking neither about "alternati...

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

... as much as I'd like it to be otherwise, you're gonna need to keep Num Lock around (albeit as out of the way as feasible). I do? I mean, I suppose it could live in a secondary layer somwhere, but I really don't need it. I have long since configured my keyboards to output the exact same keys in b...

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

[Insert] toggles between Overwrite and Insert modes in Word, but also in other programs where it is even more useful. Good for you. If you are using those programs, this is obviously an important key for you, and you will want to keep it in your layout. (Not that there weren't three or four other w...

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

(there is one I really dislike, though — guess which) I dunno, the 2U Escape? One thing, though: that 1U Alt and the "offset" split space bar strike me as needing a do-over. I'm sure you're right. At this point I'm just throwing stuff around and see what sticks ... the idea was to have a fully symm...

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

Well, I do. (And I might be a newbie here at DT, but not to computing in general.) It's the most useless key on my keyboard by a wide margin, and that includes SysRq and ScrollLock, both of which have their uses. YMMV.

Re: Post a picture of your ideal keyboard layout!

I was toying with the idea of a non-staggered, fullsize layout. A 100% Ortho, if you will, with a few nods to Ergodox. (Pardon the German layout, it should be easy to adapt to local needs.) All keys are 1U and 2U, with the exception of the Enter key which, to the best of my knowledge, does not exist...

Re: Price Check: How much is my _____ worth?

I bought the PCB with plate, switches and caps from a Canon AP 830 typewriter today, expecting them to be Alps. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the keys to be white SMK inverse cross mount switches ... https://deskthority.net/w/images/thumb/4/4b/SMK_inverse_cross_mount_--_infobox.jpg/375px-SMK...

Re: [GB] DSA Scientific

Actually, pricing is very competitive (dare I say good...) at the quantities we are selling. I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree here. No hard feelings. Not sure if I mentioned it already in this thread, but if Mykeyboard.eu pricing is unfair for your region or you feel you are getting a raw...

Re: [GB] DSA Scientific

You included postage to your Europe price but not to the US one. Actually, I did not. I compared prices as quoted on the respective websites. In fact, mykeyboard.eu charges additional shipping fees, between 0 € (Belgium only) and 31,50 € (Iceland), depending on country. (For Finland it's an additio...

Nice, but 1200$ nice? If I had that kind of f. you money, I'd still get other things first. (I have a model M that I rarely use.)

What type of switch is this? I mean, look at the stem in the last picture ... lovely caps, but I don't think they'd fit anywhere else.

Re: [GB] DSA Scientific

They are beautiful, but man are they expensive ... Europeans seem to be getting a particularly raw deal. The bare minimum for my daily driver (Alphas + TKL + ISO + NorDE) would set me back 140 bucks in the US. The same set comes to 176 €, which translates to 197 $ or so. Yes, US prices don't factor ...

Re: Blue or Brown Switch ?

Yes, there is a difference. The MX Brown is somewhat softer and silent, which the MX Blue is not (i.e. it has an audible click) Which one is better? Nobody can tell you that, it all depends on your needs and preferences. Give them both a try, would be my suggestion, see which one you prefer.

If you care about correct legends that much then get relegendable keycaps.
I don't, and blanks will be fine, if at least they'd give us an ISO enter + additional key more often. Catering to ANSI only really show a very narrow point of view.

[WTB][EU-AT] Alps Caps

I am looking for Alps keycaps in black, white or grey. Original set is double shot, but will consider anything. ISO UK preferred, but again, any offers considered. (If you don't have a full set, let's talk anyway. I need some keys more urgent than others.)

Re: Tell me about your experience with dome boards

For the longst time, I used the various cheap rubber domes that came with a new computer. Sure, I noticed they weren't as good as the "old" keyboards we had in the computer lab in school, but I didn't think there was much you could do about it. One day I found an old dumped model M and made it work....

Re: ISO users

That reminds me of a point that is not stressed enough: the difference between the physical layouts (ISO, ANSI, BAE, JIS, ANSISO, etc.) and the national/logical layouts that go on top of it/them. Absolutely. Anything other than US on an ANSI quickly becomes a PITA. On the other hand, ISO is pretty ...

Obviously this GB has gone the way of the dodo, but does any one know a source (font) for the symbols used? I am talking about the Insert/Home/PageUp etc. function keys ... it'd be an elegant solution to an issue I'm having in a multi-language environment ... https://deskthority.net/download/file.ph...
