Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project

Thanks darkcruix, for your comment about my config. I've played some more and fitted some feet. My spacebar issues were solved by pulling the spacebar up off the stabiliser stems by 0.5 mm or so allowing the bottom of the spacebar to rest at the same level as the surrounding keys. Next time I open t...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project

All the keys seemed to work fine on my round 1 BSSK apart from the odd-feeling spacebar. I opened it up to play and soon needed to refit 4 key modules as the fly plates fell off. I did finally get the knack of refitting the fly plates by watching your setup video. The follow-ups you posted with bett...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

So a funny thing happened when cleaning my compact F62. I removed the case to dust it and I happened to rest the case top over the mechanism for a moment ... and the keyboard looked so much cooler with an inclined top. Anyway. I've made a prototype replacement for the "mid case" which has a 12 mm hi...

to someone that has one, is the ultra compact f62 case angled or is it flat?
The keyboard mechanism is tilted forward slighty but the top and bottom of the case are parallel to each other. There's no angling feet by default but I'm using an "ESC flip" keyboard stand to tilt mine.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

The really cute thing is that the 1.25 U key is an ISO left shift key. So there'll be a printed version of it as a "normal" key from both Unicomp and ellipse.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

The inv. T made of 1.25 U keys lines up perfectly with a similar gap on the left and right of the 'up' key and to the left of the 'left' key. I didn't like the way the non-stepped part of the Caps Lock wasn't centred above the 'down' key. I superglued a Model M stem into a 1.25 U key to make the peb...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

While I'm counting fractional units, something that's presumably part of Model M/F lore but I don't know: what's the deal with the off-centre stem on 1.5 U keys? I notice that the 1.5 Us on the bottom row compensate for it to the left and right edges but don't seem to inside the 1.5, 1, 1.5 U cluste...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I've tried that but I don't like the way it doesn't line up perfectly with the 'down' key. Actually, i mistyped in the previous message and it's actually a 1.25 U key I'd want to hollow out. That would give (I think) the same gap to the left and right of 'up' and to the left of 'left'.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I've done a similar mod to my HHKB-layout board. I've fitted Unicomp 1.25 U keys to make that inv. T. The stem spacing is perfect for it. It's a shame there isn't a 1.5 U key with an offset stem to replace the Fn key. I might try making my own by hollowing-out a 1.5 U and gluing in a Model M two-par...

My compact F62 had a similar problem when delivered. It turned out to be the soldered contacts of the ribbon cable on the PCB piercing the tape over them and shorting on the inside of the case.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

I bought some fine tweezers and have had no trouble removing the floss when needed. I believe the only difference between the F62 and the compact F62 is the attachment method of the bottom plate to the case of the keyboard ('tabs' on the side vs folded legs), so I doubt that's an issue.

I flossed my compact F62 with the same floss in lengths of 14 mm and it went fine. 14 mm is short enough that the floss doesn't protrude above the spring.

I notice the backspace on the HHKB layouts in pearl/pebble is the lighter of the two colours. Shouldn't it be darker to match the other non alpha-num keys?

It's usually pretty easy to push heat shrink along wires that are only slightly narrower than the pre-shrinking inner diameter.
I'd rate it as easier than applying tape to a narrow wire.

Would heatshrink tubing not be a better choice than electrical tape?
It won't ooze glue over time.
