Re: 1979 Lear Siegler ADM-2 keyboard (Vintage Vintage Key Tronic Foam & Foil)
Nice. I've never seen an ADM-2 before - mostly just ADM-3, ADM-5 and ADM 42. I regret not getting a blue ADM-3 for $40 when I picked up a load of computers, but I ran out of space in my car. (damn it!) I too like light weighted foam & foil, but noticed that when I replaced the disintegrated foam pa...

1979 Lear Siegler ADM-2 keyboard (Vintage Vintage Key Tronic Foam & Foil)
A quick backstory about this keyboard - Every since I first got into mechanical keyboards, more specifically vintage boards, I had gone on a massive scavenger hunt to find all the old boards I like to make a sort of "wish list." The Lear Siegler ADM-2 terminal and keyboard was at the top of this "wi...

Help w/ converting an old Key Tronic board
Hey all! Looking for any help that can get me started with converting an old Key Tronic F&F terminal keyboard. It uses a very old variant of the foam and foil switches but the core concept hasn't changed. I'll be replacing all the foam and foil shortly as most of it was in pretty bad shape. I know v...

Anyone know what key switch this is?
Anyone know what key switch this is? It's some sort of Key Tronic. I have a key tronic mag reed myself but mine doesn't have springs and the stem isn't hollow. It also doesn't look like any foam and foil I've seen.

Re: Help on converting a Dasher D1
Congrats on your find! How do the keys feel? With Xwhatsit controllers, the most important part is to figure out which contact points are rows, and which are columns. You will need to follow the traces to identify which point is connected to a full row of keys, which point is connect to a full colu...

Help on converting a Dasher D1
Hey everybody, I’m looking for some help on converting a Dasher D1 that I recently acquired. Overall the keyboard is in pretty good shape, however, it has yellowed quite a bit and one of the key switches is broken. I’ve seen a post from a fellow user about converting an original Dasher which should ...

1976 Zentec 9003 Keyboard - Key Tronic Magnetic Reed
Some photos of my Zentec 9003 keyboard from 1976. It uses Key Tronic Magnetic Reed Switches. The switches feel very nice, they're extremely smooth. They are stiff, however; I'd guess 80 grams. Key Tronic makes my favorite type of vintage keyboards, specifically for their looks. The keycaps are my fa...

Re: RS232 to USB?
Hi everybody, thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, I've never worked on converting a board before so most of what you all are saving is just sounding like gibberish... lol.
There's no documentation about this terminal online, but I assume it's running standard RS232.

80's Honeywell hall effect keyboard w/ 4B3E switches
Recently I had the opportunity to pick up six early 80's Honeywell terminals, each which came with an extremely nice keyboard in Honeywell's infamous white and gray color scheme. The terminal + keyboard design itself is one of my favorites in existence, due to the sharp lines and the 'secret laborat...

Re: Room full of IBM beam spring keyboards!
I know of a similar video! Another room full of beamspring keyboards & terminals, however, this is more recent. These computers are not doing so well, though.

Re: RS232 to USB?
Real RS-232, with voltages up to like ±15 V? Or TTL level serial with the RS232 bit encoding? Most keyboards would have the latter. Full-blown terminals would have the former. For TTL serial to USB, there are standard chips like FTDI https://www.adafruit.com/product/70 or https://www.sparkfun.com/p...

Does anyone know how to convert a standard RS232 output to USB? I have a few RS232 keyboards, but I have no clue as to how to convert them. Any help would be awesome.

Re: Has anyone purchased keyboards from this seller?
I'd suggest you get a refund ASAP. All the sellers' reviews as a seller are greater than a year old, and it's very possible the reviews are several years old. Maybe Ebay has a feature where you can't get a refund after 30 days, and that's why the shipping estimate is so long. Here's my guess as to w...

Re: Honeywell Hall Effect Keyboard
What model terminal is that? One of the first video terminals I ever used, back in 1981, was a Honeywell VIP 7801. I believe the model is a of the “BCRU” variant - however, there’s no telltale way to know for sure on this one. The information about these systems online is extremely limited, and the...

Honeywell Hall Effect Keyboard
This is my early 80's Honeywell hall effect keyboard. There's a similar version that's been posted here a few times, but this one is different. There's no numpad and the navcluster is diamond shaped. Strangely, the A,S,D,F and J,K,L,: keys are all indented more than the other keys. The switches are ...

Zentec 9003 Terminal Keyboard - Key Tronic Switches
I recently picked up this mid 1970's Zentec 9003 terminal on Ebay. Surprisingly, there's very little information about the terminal online and I'm sure, for most of you, this your first time seeing this keyboard. It weighs in at about 11 lbs and houses some old Key Tronic linear switches. I love the...
