Re: Great/Interesting Finds

NIB UNI Keyboard with Tai-Hao Aruz switches. The price and shipping is way to high for me: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144129067369 I'm pretty sure that this is the one that's been on ebay for about a month. I've not tried Tai-Hao switches, but I think the market is telling the ebayer, "Your price is ...

Re: What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

https://www.rainmeter.net FWIW, I have two IBM 5140 laptops. If I can't sell one AND if I can remember how DOS 3.2 works, I wouldn't necessarily mind having it sit in a corner and just run a screen saver ... if there was one in DOS 3.2. Provided it's not excessively noisy. I don't think the 5140 has...

Re: help with IDing this switch

1. Lots of hits for "Textool."
2. No clue on the switch. You might want to just unsolder a switch and see what it says on the bottom housing.

Exactly. Buzz around breathing in your gang's sweet vapor trails in and forget all about mechs.

Glarses. More on the amusing side and newer KBs, though.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

Reminder to self: sell all my OmniKeys after I put blue Alps in them (I'm typing on one right now). $898. Hey, Polecat, wanna make some cash? Well, none of mine are NOS, or NIB. Or NIBIB. It was actually, "It appears to have been used very minimally before being repacked and stored." So, "Used, in ...

Re: Topre Question

I did run across a couple of reviews here and confirmed your comments on Nopre KBs. I watched the review from Chyros and it boiled down to, "I like them better than Topre." I'll snag one of the Nopres at some point. I did just purchase a scissor-switch, Bluetooth, 34-key, numpad. While I could have ...

Re: What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

My current thread on Topre , which has a lot of good information on their keyboards. A lot of folks have put some really great comments in that thread. Note the key weightings (and prices) for different Topre brands. In the US, mechanicalkeyboards.com, Amazon, and others sell Topre. I think the "wo...

Re: What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

Also underwhelmed by those plate springs It's not that I'm really underwhelmed because it's a bad keyboard, it's just ... not the ultimate KB for me. As I wrote, I think it's better than a Model F or Model M. Maybe if I didn't know about Hall Effect or Topre switches, I'd consider it the best thing...

Re: What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

1. Get your "white whale" 2. Find out that you don't really like it 3. Take it apart completely 4. Never get around to putting it back together 5. Throw the parts in a closet because you don't know what to do with them and they're making your desk look like a mess 6. Forget about it 7. Come back to...

Re: What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

I did discover that, as far as I can tell, mine outputs null (0) scancodes for some of the switches though, which kinda sucks. You might have something broken and/or your keyboard isn't set up right in your OS. While I can't use all the keys without the Hasu converter, they do beep at me when I pre...

What happens when your "White Whale" disappoints?

I've been pining over the IBM 5576 and P70/75 for around two years, ever since I found Chyros' YouTube channel. I loved the sound. Hearing that it also was a really decent keyboard kinda solidified my desire to get one. So, I finally got one. It was expensive. It was from overseas. It just needed so...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

RE the 5100, you might want to ask the seller to pop off a key. You want dome with slider. 1. That is a bit too much. You might be able to find NOS (new old stock) cheaper on ebay. 2. Make sure it doesn't have the AT 6-pin DIN (yes, 6-pin, not 5 pin). 3. The ones with the 5-Pin DIN are supposed to b...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

I've been eyeing that seller for a bit based on how interesting the boards are case/layout wise. Good to know there might be some trickery afoot. I don't plan to keep MX blacks in anything I buy if I plan to use it so switch swapping isn't exactly the end of the world for me I suppose. Still good t...

So, I just bought one of those Packard Bells for $25. Immediately afterwards, I found a bunch of 5140M NOS keyboards for $30. [sarcasm] Thanks, ebay search engine! Re: Switch Erase-Ease on BTC 8120

I recently acquired an IBM 5576-001 . It sorta has 5 split space bars. One's really a caps lock key. Two are read as space bars in Windows 10 non-Japanese. I don't remember if the other two do anything, as the keyboard is currently on my bench and taken apart, I can't check. I'm really hoping I can...

Re: Topre Question

That snappy upstroke is what's "silenced" on "silent" Topre, using a wee shock absorber on the underside of the top housing to damp the impact of the returning slider as it snaps back against the top housing. Thanks for this info! Again, I'm not planning on doing anything to the KB near term, but I...

I looked for a NovaTouch and just couldn't find one. However, it looks like I could get an entire set of MX adapters for under $60, provided I wanted MX keycaps. I'd find it really difficult to get used to a sub-TKL sized keyboard as a daily driver, so that excludes the HHKB for me. Topre Question

I bought a new-to-me Realforce R2 TKL. I like. However, I know virtually nothing else about Topre keyboards. Re: Switch Erase-Ease on BTC 8120

Are you sure that'll work? If the keyboard simply sends a backspace scancode when the "left spacebar" is pressed, then you'll have a hard time remapping it in software. I will look identical to the "true backspace" from the perspective of the computer. I don't own one of these keyboards, though, so...
