Re: Switch Repair - Gonzo Method

I have one KB, an OmniKey 102, that I'm just finishing up -- loooks like it has only two remaining prooblems, an "O" key that sometimes sticks and a spacebar that's a bit too loud. After that, I'll try this. I might try Evaporust, just because I don't have naval jelly lying around.

Re: TopreNiz Thoughts

I think that maybe I'll play around with dome swapping and/or different springs in the future, but I haven't played around with the Abko long enough to really want to do this. Aside from the fact that no manufacturer seems to want to install screws in their cases. Snaps. Why does it have to be snaps?

Re: TopreNiz Thoughts

Check out viewtopic.php?f=45&t=25640. I piggy-backed onto a review from Go-Kart with my Abko keyboards and Topre Realforce 55g. Summary is that the Nopres feel different from the Topre, but in a good way.

As I have too many 8-pin KBs, I'd be very interested in what your pinouts are and the converter you wired up. Can you please post that?

Re: Switch Repair - Gonzo Method

I've gotta try this. I have a bunch of Alps switches stashed away because they weren't registering. I wasn't saving them because I was hoping future me would find a possible fix. I was saving them for parts.

Re: 5000 AZERTY Keyboards NOS

Just wanted to drop in a note. I'm in Arizona, which is in the far southwest corner of the USA. I'm getting 11 keyboards, IIRC. 19.5kg. I paid for the inozenz service package. Parcel was dropped off at DHL in Germany on September 4. USPS says it'll be delivered to me tomorrow. That's less than two w...

Re: Stuff you just bought

I confirmed that the little numpad works on Mac. Big Sur, even. I had one of the Focus KBs with the calculator, too. I'm actually not quite sure which I prefer more, but I can say that it took me over a year to find something like that Targus. I was thinking about doing something with an Arduino, bu...

Re: Buckling Spring Switch Life

When enough of a Model M's rivets are broken, the barrel plate can break apart in the folds between the rows of keys and it can no longer be bolt-modded. On the M2 you can damage a spring if you seat a keycap wrong. I don't know if that is an issue on the regular Model M. I have gotten springs to "...

do you know if its becasue of the membrane or the spring itself? Afaik, it's the membrane sheets that heavily reduced its lifespan. Two of these: s-l1600 - Copy.jpg It's a Targus PAUK001 v3.0 USB keypad w/ Retractable Cord. This is the first numeric keypad I've found that has a display, can be used as both a normal calculator and number pad, and can send results back to the computer. The only minus (heh) is that it's a membrane ...

OK, what's the best MX-compatible case? There are a couple different Wyse terminals that are built like tanks.

Re: What is this cable called and where can i get it? (For IBM Model F)

I don't see anything wrong with it. Are you sure you need another? You can buy a roll of ribbon cable from Amazon. Example. (I know you need 32 pins; it's an example.) You just need to strip or crimp the ends. You can get something like this or find one with a crimp tool. The plastic end connectors ...

Re: New project! Vintage keyboards restoration and vintage switches sound tests!!

Speling is important. "Restoration." "Hear." The graphics are a tad too fast. You tease old switches vs. new, but you never compare old vs. new. You remove all the key caps and don't show why. I see that you've cleaned the key switch mounting plate. Did you clean the switches? Just the caps? It woul...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYSWITCH thread

I'll take a crack at it. I've seen a couple of "red" Alps clones posted here in the recent past, but they're actually more orange in person. In this case, I'd say that there's a possibility that these are Datacomp switches , of which there is a red version. Or, of course, someone put Matias switches...

Would my Quietkey project be of any interest to you? Maybe. I did briefly look over it before I started this thread. I generally think "Alps" when I think Dell keyboards. I've got probably 6 of those. I'll look in more depth. How about the case from a fullsize MY board, like the Cherry G81-3000? I'...

Re: MX Compatible Case Suggestion, Please

Thanks, HF. I'm not really looking for a hot swap or anything like that because all those cases are pretty uniform and small. I want something nice and big for extra boomy-ness. Another way of looking at it is, if you're talking Alps keyboards, the case to get is from an OmniKey or Zenith (and some ...

Even more manuals.

It can connect to a DEC VT-220 and looks pretty much identical to a DEC-LK201AA keyboard. I'd say that the odds of converting it to work on a modern computer have gone up :).

What is the best MX-compatible case available that has a modern ANSI layout? I'm thinking about expanding my Kalih Box Jade into a full-size case. Re: Nopre Electro-Capacitive Switches: A Good Topre Alternative? (Niz Plum/Abko)

So, I bought a 965, which is the 55cN full-size version of the 935. I've had this keyboard for a bit more than two weeks. There were a couple odd things that made me wait to post anything about the keyboard. I eventually came up with an analogy: if the 935 is like typing on a feather pillow, the 965...

Re: AEK ii Cable

I'd recommend getting the Drakware converter. It costs about $10 more than the parts to make the converter yourself. You do need an ADB or S-Video cable to hook to the Drakware and a USB C cable to hook to whatever your computer uses. You can then use the keyboard on a Windows box or whatever.
