Re: Key Cap Cleaning: The Case For Dishwasher Detergent

I might just try the 7th Generation powder. The liquid didn't do very much for me. Simple Green was better. I'm still pretty happy with how Efferdent works and how little it costs, although I think I'll get some of the "heavy stain" version the next time I use it.

Thanks for posting!

Re: Ultrasonic Key Cap Cleaning - 2021 Edition

I have the slightly cheaper version of the ultrasonic cleaner mentioned and I will +1 that it's been pretty reliable. That being said, the middle of the 3 number LEDs burnt out in about a week. However, I know that 0x0 = 90 seconds, etc. I almost always use 4x0 = 480 seconds. I've done several thous...

Re: Pocket USB keyboard tester

You could make a hell of a multi-keyboard programmable converter with all of those sockets! Something I've been hankering after for years is a multi-function converter box I could mount under my desk. One USB port to computer, and one of each of AT, PS/2, ADB and NeXT sockets on it for simply plugg...

As I often say on this forum, I'm disappointed because I'm in the USA.

I think the most common are going to be the Model F XT followed by the Model F AT. 83/84 key.

I don't think anyone will find it sexy, but this is my favorite looking keyboard of the ones I have.
That's awesome. 8-)

Reminds me of when I decked out my F107
I like the caps a lot, but I initially thought that PF 18 key was labeled "turd."

I'd buy a couple Model F XT @ $15 a piece. Like, right now. I don't even have any Model Fs right now.

Group buy? Get a bunch done and sell on ebay?

I'm sorry. It's not one I've seen. I would assume that those square inserts can be removed, though. I've seen a lot of those. Don't try, though. Those type of mounts are a little finicky.

That sold fast. Which is great for me, as I have a bunch of 'em to sell and that's a nice price ($150). However, the buyer might have thought this KB had blue Alps and was getting a real bargain.

This picture represents about half of the white Alps KBs I have to repair. These sliders fill up a 32oz / about a liter freezer bag.

Re: Post your keyboards that went to hell (and hopefully back)

Needs a shave. Surprisingly, the switches are still decent. Forgive the rotation on a couple pics. (Thaaaanks, Microsoft.) If nothing else, OmniKeys clean up extremely well. I just used Evaporust and Rust-Oleum filler primer to get rid of the rust and minor pitting. Three or so coats of the filler ...

I think I mentioned elsewhere, but I would definitely, absolutely pay for someone to make Model F "foam" mats ... if I ever get another Model F in need of repair, that is. While I think the templates are great, I must have failed scissors, hole punches, and Xacto knife trimming in high school. My be...

What do the stabilizer mounts look like on the keyboard (i.e. can you show us the other side of the keyboard)?

It looks like Cherry mount. Have you tried a spacebar, mounts, and stabilizers from a different keyboard?

I highly recommend you keep an open mind and try other switches such as the SKCM, SKCL and SMK 2nd generation switches while hunting for Blue Alps. While Blue Alps are definitely popular, one size doesn't fit all. While they're more difficult to find, SMK 2nd generation ("Monterey blue") and NEC bl...
