While it doesn't use the honeywell switches, you may enjoy this project which is a spiritual successor of sorts

Given the matrix restrictions I think it's great!

BTW, how's the Model F backlog coming (Or: what's the latest expectation on when the first round of these boards are going to ship out?)

Re: On the need of a larger numeric keypad for modern usage requirements.

These are some interesting points you bring up, and I've actually been playing around with various numpad related edits myself lately. I want ( and ) on my numpad, since I use those frequently and don't like them stuck on a shift layer. How are you guys actually sending all these characters? Right n...

Re: NKRO keyboards for art installation

The problem with all those pressure studies is that that's going to be for pressure on a flat, even surface. Keyboards are not that. If the entire weight of my body is spread over the surface area of my foot, yeah, it won't be too bad. But if I'm standing on a few switches, now the entire weight of ...

Re: NKRO keyboards for art installation

I feel like you're looking at static pressure and ignoring the dynamic pressures that come from walking, jumping, stomping, tripping and stumbling and falling onto them, etc. Sure, 99% of people might be careful. But there's always that one person, and also accidents happen. People would trip, stumb...

Re: NKRO keyboards for art installation

I planned to put them on the floor and allow people to walk over them and roll and sit... lol those keyboards are going to be instantly destroyed. Have you tried stomping, standing on one foot and wheeling in place, etc. on a test keyboard to see how it fares? If you really want the keyboard aesthe...

Dang, I just bought my Lambo last week, otherwise I'd totally have funded this project. Terrible timing.

Re: My Gray Badge Model M collection

My favorite would be the standard M, since it was made on my birthday! A very close second / sometimes tied for first is the Screen Reader/2 pad. It was the first rare / unique / special board I found that wasn't just a run-of-the-mill keyboard. Also, by an incredible coincidence, it was made either...

Re: My Gray Badge Model M collection

Yeah I can I suppose, but with a huge caveat: I'm just a lowly VFX artist who taught himself python to help with work, and then frustratingly stumbled my way through C++ to cobble together something that at the end of the day sent the right codes to the computer. I'm not a programmer and I have no f...

Re: My Gray Badge Model M collection

Yeah, it speaks PS/2, albeit weirdly. Each key sends different scancodes for down and up. For example, key one sends scancode (decimal) 6 when you press it, and 134 when you release it. So I used a teensy and C++ to write my own converter / remapper for it.

Stepping off my high horse for a second though, if you prefer buckling spring and want hardware programmable, why not just get a Model M and soarers converter or equivalent?

Re: Is there a vintage to modern switch conversion guide?

I mean... those are the options, I dunno what else to tell you haha. People are always asking for modern, Alps inspired switches. So someone finally puts in the work and the expensive R&D to make them, and then people are like "No not like that, I want them cheaper". It was a risky step taken to act...

Re: My Gray Badge Model M collection

Same! There were a couple surprising size comparisons that I didn't realize until I had them all together. Like you said, I didn't realize how much smaller the SSK is than the standard M due to the top portion of the case being smaller. I also was kinda surprised at how much "less big" the M122 was ...

My Gray Badge Model M collection

Shortly after I got my Model M (The standard one) and then the Screen Reader/2 pad, and using them both together, a thought popped into my head that I couldn't shake: "Hmm, it'd be pretty neat to have all the Gray Badge Model Ms together". Well, here were are a little over a year later and I don't w...

Re: Is there a vintage to modern switch conversion guide?

The only modern, MX compatible switches inspired by Alps are Zeal PC's Clickiez. https://zealpc.net/products/clickiez They can be put into Clicky and Tactile mode. I have very little experience with Alps switches (Just one FK2000 with White Alps) but I can say that I really enjoy my Clickiez switche...
