help with IDing this switch
Hi Everyone, I picked this up from my local Computer recycler for next to nothing. Sadly they had already disassembled it so I'm not exactly sure what it came out of. It seems to be from some sort of Circuit debugger from a company named Zax. The other PCB from the system had a Zilog Z-80 on it and ...

Question on restoring a BTC 53-series keyboard?
Hi Everyone, a few months ago a friend of mine found an absolutely terribly dirty BTC 53-Series 5339R-O. They know that I collect boards and gave it to me. It worked and it was just dust and quite literally mud making it dirty. So I disassembled it and the foam was actually still in good shape so I ...

it can't access my USB to Serial adapter. Do you get the generic error (no perror, no errno display) that code returns? Unable to open tty port specified Is the logged in user a member of the group that owns the serial port device, usually dialout? Hi MMcM, I'm a member of the group and i confirmed...

Help with a RS-232 Number pad and Linux
Hi everyone! I recently acquired a Qtronix QX-822R with Aristotle switches with the intent of using it with my laptop. I daily drive linux and I didn't expect it to be as difficult as it has been to get it up and working. I've been working on it all day with only minimal success. I found this web pa...

Re: Seeking rather specific keyboard recommendations
Hi Again, A Fujitsu Peerless FKB-4700 just occurred to me as a very good option. They feel roughly the same as a Model M, but slightly heavier with a really quiet click to them. They feel really nice if you find a lightly used and clean example. I have a NOS one and a couple lightly used ones and th...

Re: Seeking rather specific keyboard recommendations
Hi Everyone, Honestly I would recommend a Dell AT101. Black Alps aren't half bad in my opinion. Sure they are a bit scratchy, but it's not terrible; at least no worse then MX blacks. If you want to make the board a bit more quite you can add some foam to the case to fill it up a bit more. AEK are su...

Re: Playing games on an Acer 6311 is infurating!
I don't think I've necessarily got a bad 6311, just not a great one. If I press the keys down straight, it clicks just as good as any clicky Alps would, but as soon as I try to press slightly off-center, I suddenly start feeling the scratches. Still feels great fun, definitely a great starter vint,...

Re: Playing games on an Acer 6311 is infurating!
I don't even try to play games on my vintage boards. I mainly play competitive FPS, in the dark; for me, this means small, modern, backlit boards. I couldn't imagine how crippled my left hand would be after an hour on my M122. I did entertain the idea of using such a board to play WoW, with all of ...

Playing games on an Acer 6311 is infurating!
Hi everyone, So this is just a quick question. Has anyone else tried playing games on an Acer 6311 with Acer switches and found it infuriating? I was trying to play Celeste which requires decently fine controls to be able to make decent progress and I was playing with my Acer which I absolutely love...

I just noticed the addition of the FN/Menu button above the number pad. That's the only obvious difference between the BTC manufactured boards.

A Parkard Bell SK-2100 not made by BTC.
Hi everyone, yesterday I stopped by my local recyclers and picked up what I thought was a Parkard Bell branded BTC 5130, but its actually made by Silitek according to the FCC ID and it's an Alps mount Dome with Slider. It threw me for a loop due to the fact it's identical to the BTC board in how it ...

How to improve MX Blacks?
Hi Everyone, I recently acquired 4 Cherry G80-11900 keyboards with MX Blacks for 6USD from my local recyclers. I'm not a fan of Blacks due to them being to heavy for a linear switch in my opinion as well as scratchy. So What can I do to improve them? I'm already thinking about changing the switches ...

Re: Help identify my keyboard
It seems that the ERGO 320 is actually the name of the computer. This is pretty weird to me because the keyboard is left unbranded and only has the name ERGO 320 printed on it. I guess if the keyboard was only ever sold along with the terminal, it wouldn't be too crazy, however, I find it hard to b...

Hey cool, I recently got a Focus 2001 as well! I love its whole aesthetic, too bad I don't have an adapter for it yet, would love to daily drive it. It's a nice board. I can't daily drive it right now sadly. It has several dead switches I haven't gotten a chance to fix yet... I need to go order a h...

Re: Model M's lighter then White Alps???
Yeah, bamboo alps are a little stiffer generally than buckling spring. Pine white alps are marginally lighter, there's not much in it though. It was just odd to me. I have used black alps extensively in the past without an issue. The weighting feels quite similar after I dug out my AT101 to compare...

Model M's lighter then White Alps???
Hey Everyone, I wanted to know your guys experiences with the weighting on white Alps? I recently switched back to one of my Model M's after a couple weeks of using a Northgate Omnikey Ultra and a Focus FK-2001 and I was surprised how light the Model M feels by comparison. According to the wiki they...

Re: What is my white whale keyboard?
Hi there, From what you described you might be a good fit for a IBM Model M. The keypress on them is about 10g lighter. You still get most of the nice typing feel of a Model F, but with less weighting. Do the switches have to be clicky? I, myself used Kailh Blues for years and I found the transition...

Does anyone else here still use ball mice?
Hi everyone,
I was curious if anyone else here still uses a ball mouse regularly? I have several I still use when I'm not using my trackball and I just enjoy them so much more then optical mice. The analog input feels slightly different to me and I enjoy it much more.
Cheers,
