If you'd like to test this independently of your current OS and software -- to eliminate those as possible causes -- you could get a Linux boot disk (e.g. Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ). Use 'xev' to see the keyboard events that are being generated when you hold down PgDn. For a mor...

Ah, a Cherry MX variable weight! Variably weighted MX works well in my experience. I've done it twice: CM Storm QFR with vintage Wyse blacks. I put red springs into the "pinkie" keys. Cherry G80-3494 with clears of various weights. In the main typing area most of the keys are "panda" (black springs...

Chicony KB-7903 -- mechanical?
Hi,
I've tried Googling, but I can't find info on the switches used in the Chicony KB-7903 split ergonomic board. Does anyone here know?
Thanks.

I made some progress today on Clavis . To make the KBT Pure project happen, we need to be able to translate the meaning of the keys depending on whether the "fn" key is pressed. ("fn" is not a USB key sent to the host: it is for the controller's use only, to reinterpret the keys being pressed.) To t...

I couldn't really replace the controller by a Teensy as the controller's solder traces are very fine, it's very hard to solder loose wires to those traces without making contact with the trace next to it. Is the controller surface mounted? If so then yeah, soldering onto that by hand would be very ...

Oh very much appreciated!! I can also code a bit for the firmware part, i'm more worried by the matrix and controler replacement actually. You're planning on replacing the matrix as well? Not saying that's a problem -- it's just more work. One good argument in favour is if the existing matrix doesn...

Sounds like an interesting project. Would you like some help? I've recently done something similar with an old Wyse terminal keyboard, i.e. remove the controller and replace it with a Teensy 2. Wyse terminal keyboards are beautiful old machines, but they're not even close to being PC-compatible. How...

Me too, especially after reading this article. http://gizmodo.com/5969052/this-conversation-between-two-drone-pilots-is-really-sad That Gizmodo article is sad, but it gives the false impression that civilian deaths are accidental. Google "double tap drone strikes", and consider that deliberately mu...

Thank you my friend, it seems that i am in the search of the key caps now :). I'm guessing it shouldn't be that hard to find some of them. I don't know what to do about the circuit, once i plug in the cable i can pull it slowly back out so it's not that bad, but as you can guess i would prefer if t...

I only have 1 vintage clears board but comparing it to that I can say that the modern ones have stronger springs (but maybe the spring on the vintage one are just worn). I've got two. One is in almost-new condition, the other has a fair bit of shine. In both cases, the keys are consistent across th...

Clears are … interesting. You can bottom out clears, but you'll wear your fingers to the bone if you keep it up. They feel like the force curve goes almost asymptotic at the end. Really? I've never used modern MX clears, but I have boards with vintage clears and they're nothing like that. Either mo...

Cherry MY have a membrane but a slider instead of a hammer. No, the white slider doesn't come in contact with the membrane. The leaf spring in MY is roughly equivalent to the buckling spring hammer, except that the BS hammer rocks/moves whereas the MY leaf spring flexes. Similarly with the helical ...

i like 'discrete' or 'discrete mechanism' keyboards. +1 (I wish I could "upvote" you). This is a good definition because it's simple, it captures essentially what is meant when we talk about "mechanical" keyboards, and it includes/excludes most of the cases that are commonly considered to be mechan...

Depressing it with a lot of force makes it go down and feel better for a while, but after some time it's hard to depress yet again. Unicomp two part keys
FYI, Unicomp is selling keyboards with two parts: key cap + stem. Just like in the old days of the model M. I bought a Unicomp Ultra Classic recently and was quite (pleasantly) surprised by this, so I contacted support and asked if this is standard across their range. The answer is no: some units ha...

I like both. I have a variably-weighted Realforce, and multiple model M's. Both types offer a smooth typing experience but the Realforce is lighter and offers accuracy with minimum fatigue, and of course it's quieter. I regularly rotate between my various keyboards, and I very much enjoy both model ...
