Re: Whats your tipps on cleaning a metal beam spring case?

Thanks for the replies! I think I won't have to sand down my case luckily, also for as of right now I'm staying away from retr0brighting until I have more experience with it :) I think I will just try to get rid of the dirt and dust with a mikrofasertuch and that should be enough :D

Re: Need help with beamspring restauration

That's also a good idea! I also took a look at the assembly one more time.. I would love to do the same but my foam is so dry and crumbles away so easily that even if I would leave it in place to strengthen it with a new one it would mess up all switches, so I'm guessing I'm going for the full repla...

Yes I have, but most probably not good enough, because I didn't find the answers I wanted
Will do that again but this time more thoroughly

Whats your tipps on cleaning a metal beam spring case?

I'm in the process of restoring an old beamspring 3278 keyboard and wanted to ask what the best way to clean the case is :)? I will spray Ballistol on the metal bottom in order to prevent future rusting. Should I just clean the case with water and soap or would you recommend a more sophisticated tre...

Re: Need help with beamspring restauration

You think you'll do what? My argument is to do as little as you can! ;) Just opening the whole thing up and looking at the overall damage and if I happen to disassemble the whole keyboard anyways because of cleaning, then why not replace the foam in the process :D But yeah goal is to do as little a...

Re: Need help with beamspring restauration

Thanks, Muirium for the pictures :D ! My second 3276, the American one, was in much better shape so I let it be. I cleaned the caps, but I don't recall ever opening the whole thing up. It's already plenty good. That's what I was hoping for because I'm afraid I'm going to break the keyboard in the pr...

Re: Need help with beamspring restauration

So, how does it feel when you type on it right now? It doesn't seem bad - it feels amazing :D I think I won't do too much for now. There is a little bit of rust inside the case which I'm going to remove as well as an overall clean of keycaps and case. I'm slightly worried that I will ruin the keyca...

Need help with beamspring restauration

Hey! I just got veeery lucky and acquired a beamspring keyboard in amazing condition compared to some photos I've seen online. However, there's still some work to do. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience doing restorations, hence I want to be as careful as possible so that I don't break an...

Re: Custom Case for Zenith ZKB-7 aka Eazy PC

How are they justifying this? Are they saying it's the vendors' fault for not putting enough protective stuff inside? Well, it clearly wasn't broken before they carried it to you. So what is that "insurance" for anyway? Yess, they wrote a letter where they explained that the thing wasn't well prote...

Anyways, I may have found a way to print the case very cheap by splitting it in half (the metal sheets would cover the line and would hold the two pieces together)

Oh yeah: does the board make noise when you shake it? The more broken rivets, the more it needs a bolt mod.
That's right I would try doing that! Maybe you don't have to do the mod after all :)

Re: '94 Model M - Garbled characters when typing

Previous owner definitely didn't crack this thing open. The bolt mod looks very difficult, I'm not sure of the exact hardware I need  It's not that difficult, In my opinion it looks more difficult than it actually is. Although if you've never done anything crafting related I would be careful...

Re: Custom Case for Zenith ZKB-7 aka Eazy PC

Update: I completely remodeled the old Zenith ZKB-7 Case in CAD. Before I start finishing off the design with the metal plates I will check if all measurements are correct. Big thanks to TNT and Muirium for helping me out with these! Right now all 3D-Services I saw online charged a minimum of 200€ f...

Re: Siemens S 22759 keyboard - Siemens STB 21 switche

Very nice board! Well you could try to trace the keyboard matrix and solder it to a Teensy or just hand solder the whole thing altogether. I'm no expert on this but there are people who already did that if you search on deskthority :)

Re: Custom Case for Zenith ZKB-7 aka Eazy PC

So the all-black one is just without the metal sheets? You can't really see it on the renders but the idea is the same with the silver one: The base is a 3d printed plastic case and on every flat side you attach a piece of metal which can basically have every colour. I will do more renders and I th...
