Kailh BOX Jades. They feel oddly similar to buckling springs, but crisper. The tactility is so sharp it's almost like something is breaking under your fingers when you type on them.
They're loud as frick, but if buckling springs don't dissuade you then give the Jades a go.

My job has me copy/pasting so much shit on a daily basis I had to move to a TKL with a macro pad on the left side just so I don't have to CTRL anything. The only part that doesn't look good here is the location of CAPS, which I think I use more than SHIFT on most days. Well, that and the ergo-bro in...

Re: Help With IBM Model M Springs

It's important to understand that the spring tension on buckling spring switches does not mean what it does in linear spring design switches. The way the springs collapse gives a much lower apparent resistance than linear springs do. If you've ever used something heavily clicky like Box Jades you'll...

Redragon K556. Metal housing, MX style switches, decent caps, full RGB, $60 to your door. Probably not going to be a popular answer, but it's the only correct one because it's mine. Or the aforementioned BTC DWS boards. If it's clean and under $40, it's worth it. Gunked up or more expensive? Don't b...

Re: Dome w/Slider Cleaning Question

Rather than just leaving the parts to dry, put them in a box and set a hair dryer on low blowing into the box. It will take very little time to dry everything out and you don't have to play guessing games on whether or not a small deposit of water got trapped and is going to short out your board.

I can't say anything about the PS2/DIN difference but I can absolutely confirm different BTC DWS boards have different domes. The 5130 domes are way snappier than the PS/2 5100c I have, to the point where I pulled the domes from a thrashed 5130 and swapped them out. The 5100c is now MUCH better. Sti...

Re: Best Dome with Slider Boards?

You'd think that someone could make a decent EC keyboard for $125. Every so often I look for one of the Niz/Plum/Royal Kludge/Abko Topre knockoffs on eBay, but their prices never seem to be cheap enough compared to the cost of an actual Topre to make them very attractive. Every so often someone put...

I completely forgot about the Type Heaven. That's the "budget" Topre made in China. I found a video from Chyros and he calls it as good or better than the Realforce, provided you only like one weighting across the keyboard. They were $139 , but it looks like they've been discontinued. The Type Heav...

Re: Topre Question

I've seen some of the 5130s with a metal bottom plate, so not necessarily that bad for build quality. A lot of them are Packard Bell models. And yes, I love tactile. I've got this brown Alps keyboard next to me ... I have owned multiple 5130's over the years. The metal plate is about four tinfoils ...

I looked for a NovaTouch and just couldn't find one. However, it looks like I could get an entire set of MX adapters for under $60, provided I wanted MX keycaps. I did think about the Niz, but it looks like they only come with 35g switches. That's a definite deal-breaker for me. Abko has what a few...

Re: Acer 6311, what's inside?

For what it's worth, I like my 6311 more than my black Alps board. They're definitely a light keystroke, good tactility, with a touch of crunch to make it interesting. By that I mean they can be scratchy but in one of those oddly satisfying ways, not the black Alps kind.

Jade has this weird small latency on the way back up because the spring is too light for the bar, which isn't a problem with Pink or NY.

The only thing that could realistically replace it would be if I managed to snag the full sized version for a good price or lucked into a relatively inexpensive Topre board. Re: Closest non buckling spring buckling spring alternative?

Weird as hell but the closest to IBM buckling springs I've found are Box Jades. There's a short ramp up, a distinct clack, and then some extraneous throw after. It's really that heavy click that makes them feel similar under my fingers. Then again I type like a pissed off monkey so grain of salt it ...

Even Topre and presumably its clones have a completely different sort of tactile bump, way more round than that of the BTC DWS (I haven't investigated the clones though so I could be wrong on that). The only clone I have is an ABKO, which is 35g weighting across the board. It's much more linear tha...

I mean.. you've basically already named all of them. If a Realforce is too much, look for a used Type Heaven. Less than half the cost, still Topre. The variable weighting is essentially worthless for gaming, it's intended for general typing use. Edit to add that the killer is going to be N-key...

I'd love to try a Topre. Just to find out what everyone's talking about.
The best way I can put it... imagine if rubber domes were made by someone that actually made them for quality. That's exactly what it is. If that idea is intriguing, look for a good deal on a Type Heaven and give it a go.

Re: Seeking rather specific keyboard recommendations

But I still have difficulty understanding what makes Topre so special. Looking at the force curves only leaves me more perplexed. Perhaps it's some sort of acquired taste. I can't imagine anyone using a Topre board for a month and being ambivalent about it. I think it's one of those instant love/do...
