Okay, you know what? I'm out. People I once respected here are acting like children. This forum no longer feels like a fun place to discuss vintage keyboards. It's become something very toxic, something that I don't want to be a part of. I'll chalk my club membership fee up to a learning experience,...

What I don't like about the "order the importance" questions (besides the already alluded-to presentation problems) is that it doesn't show the relative importance, just the order. In the bigger one, the bottom four or five were all totally unimportant to me, so I gave them an arbitrary order. The s...

I've never figured out how to make those work except as macros. Maybe that's the intent: assign the key to Cut, then make a macro so that Cut sends Ctrl+X.

Wow, that's a pretty generic label.

It has lock lights, so if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably an AT keyboard. Some XT keyboards did have lock lights though, so that alone isn't a perfect indicator.

From your pictures, unless someone knows exactly what keyboard that is (which they well might—I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable on Alps stuff), we can't really answer your question. A picture of the bottom of the case, especially of any switches or labels, could be helpful. There are two common...

Unfortunately my rigol cannot into current measurement - curious to see what happens with power consumption on microsecond scale. Of course it can into current measurement, as long as you don't mind slightly changing the current it's measuring. Just pass the current through e.g. a 0.1 Ω resistor, a...

I think the sharp drop is important, but even more important is that it be closely correlated to the actuation. And if there's a click, it had better be exactly at the actuation, or it just comes across as odd and unhelpful.

I think the best option is to make the schematic have each alternative switch position as a separate switch, and connect them in the schematic the same as you want to in the PCB.

It makes the forum as a whole look bad. It clutters the spy. It's helping the clickbait sites he links to get higher in search results. It's essentially spam. At least the thread became fun, and unrelated to the original topic.

Not nasty, and don't clean it off! It's a conformal coating, which serves to moisture-proof the PCB.

Yes, that is generally what R-Alt is used for these days if you have an international keyboard layout running. If your default keyboard layout under Window, for instance, is English US, then just add the US International layout, and when that is active, the R-Alt key becomes an Alt Graph key and fu...

Of course you can convert it externally. The one I received in last year's Secret Santa has an external converter. It's basically just a DE-9 connector wired to a Teensy, all stuffed into an enclosure. Keyboard goes in one side, USB out the other.
