Re: Orange or White Alps - Ultrasonic Clean?

Just about to do this and thought;

Will there be any issue mixing parts when reinstalling as they will no longer be in their original locations?

Unless I clean them one assembly at a time!

Orange or White Alps - Ultrasonic Clean?

Hi all I am very quickly building quite a collection of keyboards and have two Alps boards, one orange, and the other white (both are Apple extended keyboards). The switches feel slightly sticky and, granted I have no reference of what good is for Alps switches, I went about removing the keycaps and...

Teeny/Soarers & MAC OS?

Hi All My BTC 5130 will not work with a standard PS/2 to USB converter, so I am attempting soarer's converter with a Teensy I have. I use a Mac, but also have a Windows laptop. If I make this using Windows, will it be then plug&play with Mac? I assume not, in that case, is there separate code for Ma...

Re: Alps Appreciation

Stickiness implies dirt/dust/grime. If you have a microsonic cleaner, I'd say a light clean is worth it for the top housings and sliders. A very quick cycle will do - 20-30 seconds with distilled water then air dry. For opening all the switches, I'd recommend getting an Alps switch opener tool. I g...

Re: Alps Appreciation

I have also received my first Alps board, an Apple M0115 with orange Alps. The keys feel pretty nice, they feel ever so slightly sticky (without actually jamming or sticking). I say this without having another Alps board to compare to. Can cleaning them make a big difference or is this a little too ...

Re: Unicomp Mini M / New Model M Tenkeyless

Without owning any Model M or F, would you recommend this Unicomp over a used vintage IBM? Not for nostalgia, only for feel and use I'd go for a new Unicomp in that case, yes. You don't need to hunt around, it'll be clean and fully working, it may well be cheaper, and the feel is pretty much the sa...

New F77 or a Unicomp?

Have you typed on both a Unicomp M and a new F77 ?

Unfortunately I will never get to try either before buying so really relying on the opinions of you guys!

For me, it is all about feel and typing experience. Looks, build quality are not important.

Unfortunate as it's nice board to type on.

Packard Bell 5130 - Is this fixable?

Hi All I have picked up a Packard Bell 5130 locally. Pretty dirty but it wasn't expensive. I have a §PS/2 to USB converter so plugged it in. No keystrokes are registered unfortunately. I get three flashing lights above the numbpad. Any thoughts on what might be wrong? Is this fixable? Note: I have a...

Re: Intro+My Keyboards+Advice request from the experienced

Welcome, Finners! I've only been into keyboards for a year or so but like you found Chyros' vids, and saw how much more there was to it all. I've only on DT for a few weeks myself but everyone on here is very friendly, but be warned, sharing company with these folk doesn't half accelerate you keybo...

Intro+My Keyboards+Advice request from the experienced

Hi all I am relatively new to the hobby and have a few Keyboards to my name : A Matias Quiet Pro (daily driver) a Varmillo with linear switches, a topre clone (Abko). Enroute to me in the mail are both a Focus 7000P and a Packard Bell 5130, probably travelling across the Atlantic right now (I’m in I...
