I think the layers are quite visible in the pictures.
yeah I didn't zoom the picture. it's standard 3d printing, they are quite thin layers anyway

wondering how the top surface is so smooth being 3d printed... non-planar extrusion or just very very thin layers?

Re: DTA 2019 preparation

okay so, I believe the best course of action for a low-fi DTA 2019 is as follow: 1) Start with just one nomination thread (as per Muirium suggestion). Let people vomit their nominations, at the end check what we have and based on that create the categories. This is the most community driven DTA I ca...

it doesn't matter if the mac address is randomized, they already know who you are from your google account, because if you want to use the play store (or any google service) you need a google account

Re: Computers and Privacy in 1981

even without gps they can track you from wifi hotspots. If you don't have wifi enabled they can even use the accelerometer to estimate your movements. As soon as you connect to the internet the data is sent home. Data is collected even when you are offline. They made quite some tests on that, search...

Re: good mouse for CAD work?

thanks for the suggestions guys.

The G500 seems hard to find (possibly it's end-of-life) but there are a few on ebay.

I'm not very comfortable with thumb trackballs honestly @Lbibass

Any impressions on the Cconnexion CadMouse Pro?

Wow. I'm a bit out of touch with "modern society" (...being an insane retired hermit living on an island...) but this mandatory mobile phone crap will probably affect me eventually. I'm going to hold out against this crap as long as I can.
are there any more islands available?

good mouse for CAD work?

I find myself doing a lot of parametric CAD lately and I find "standard" mice to be tiring in the long run. Basically what most mice do is placing the middle button under the wheel and that switch is generally a little stiffer. Totally fine in day to day usage but a little upsetting after 6 hours of...

Everything is done digitally. Since Sept 19th (I believe that was the exact date) a new European regulatio...

Two separate phenomena back then, but not now.
it was a problem back then too, simply they didn't manage to put a tracking device in the pocket of every person back then. Now they have.

Computers and Privacy in 1981

I find this video incredibly interesting, not only for retro-computing (and keyboards) pr0n but also for a somewhat naive and idealistic Steve Jobs interview.

arduino stack supports mouse/joystick and all. if you don't mind losing TMK flexibility you could use that. I've build a keyboard out of it, it's not as fun as TMK but it totally works

regarding the categories we need to find a theme for this year's awards and create some poster images. There is no firm date yet, but "soon" :)

Re: Burn him at the stake

Sad thing is this how many mid-sized online newspaper and blog articles read these days. I do not agree. When you read "best LCD of 2019" or "Top 10 mouse" in mainstream media it's 100% clickbait. You'll find the same list of products they never actually tested with a few paragraphs of super-generi...

Re: DTA 2019 preparation

I think handling the qualification like Muirium suggests is the best compromise we can have right now.

Apart from that we need to contact the sponsors and write some copy for each category and each nominee. @Redmaus look at previous DTA to get a glimpse of what that means.

Re: DTA 2019 preparation

1. Combine the entrant gathering and first rounds of voting into one. So I’d have people nominate entries on a thread per award category, and ask for forum members to simply “second” the entries (post a quote with +1) they agree are worth going forward. That combines a poll with a rolling restart a...

DTA 2019 preparation

If we want DTA2019 we need to start working on it now. First of all we need to find a better way of handling the whole process. The way it has been done in the years it's incredibly time consuming. If we had a better slimlined system I bet there would be no issues each year running the awards withou...
