Re: 5000 AZERTY Keyboards NOS

MEI. I'm typing this on the Televideo MEI right now. I'm fairly sure it's French layout. I think I'm going to put it in the yard for Halloween to scare small children. It is an absolute chore to type on this. Chyros, I feel your pain. It, uh, made a lasting impression on him. https://deskthor...

I actually might. They’ll be early ones though. Dunno if they changed them.

Re: new keycaps for Space Invaders boards

I’ve an Alps integrated dome board with double stabbed Big Ass. The Zenith Supersport SX laptop keyboard, documented by the venerable Beardsmore here: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Zenith_Supersport_SX His comment on the key’s reassembly is entirely correct! As for how they feel: no worse than a typi...

Re: How much do you use context menu key?

Europeans might want a , key. Numpads for European countries that use decimal comma instead of decimal point do have comma on the numpad instead of decimal point. The Brazilian PC keyboard's numpad has decimal comma, but also a . key -- the numpad + key is split! I'd like a degree ° key. It's on Ge...

For what it's worth: Access-IS boards are quite well made. I had a pile of the older models , years ago. I believe the blankers can come off and give you options like this: https://deskthority.net/download/file.php?id=22049 USB is a good step up from the old controllers. Those things were a nightmar...

Re: new keycaps for Space Invaders boards

The NMB rubber dome hacking route sounds the most promising to me, besides harvesting from another bigass space invader directly of course! Mind, I’ve never actually had my hands on one of their dome boards so maybe they’re very different in ways unfriendly to a good chop and glue mod… maybe. NMB ma...

Thanks. Think I heard of that in passing, before. £17.50 in this part of the world, so like a Teensy 2 back when I was first installing those in everything.

Re: Active USB to PS/2 adapter?

Are there modern versions from XT to AT, That's what I was asking. I don't think there is. Or vintage ones either. Keyboards just supported both, with a mode switch. or do those go from XT to USB? Yes, that. We can convert XT easily with Soarer's and all the other converters. But every one goes to ...

Re: Active USB to PS/2 adapter?

Sounds promising. For those who know what they're doing when it comes to playing as a USB host. (Not me!) Actually, I'd love a Teensy or the like* which just exposed its own damn USB pins as a break out, to make wiring easier and external sockets (which I much prefer over keyboard tails) less bulky ...

Re: How much do you use context menu key?

Put your cursor in the middle of some block of text.

Option plus arrow keys. Then add Shift to that. You just might change your mind.

Alt + cursor keys is pretty much why I write on computers!

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

AT and XT spacebar are just about the same. OG Kishsaver is light like a Model M. So the light weighting on these is more in keeping with the style.

That said, I actually quite like heaving a heavy spacebar on a Model F. Feels extra luxurious for some reason.

Aha! I may be interested in a few red and green beamspring double shots myself then! You’re right about buckling spring: “two-piece” uppers are all you need to address, on the alphas anyway. But those fellas clip onto their lower counterparts. I suspect a certain Goldilocks zone of flexibility is re...

Re: Recreating the Lisp keyboard (10 years later)

Given this is DT: the non-MX mounts you're going to be asked about are Topre (doable), Alps (same) and IBM buckling spring (whole other story). Some cheeky buggers like me will even mention IBM beamspring, which is technically more feasible, but the cost of entry to those boards is $1k+. They're rar...

Re: How much do you use context menu key?

Context menu key isn't just a Windows thing. Some Linux programs make use of it as well. Not sure about Macs. It does nothing on the Mac. It's like Num Lock and gets ignored completely. Karabiner can see it, and remap it to something useful, but on a stock system there's no support for it at all. I...

I kept the cable, I can dig it out and look. Don't remember seeing anything so useful there. As for the base, I remember nothing.

By silver sticker, do you mean the bottom of the outside of the case, or on (beamspring terminology equivalent of) the shiny barrel frame itself?

Shame IBM wasn't putting birth stickers onto beamsprings. I'd need one of those for me. I pre-date buckling spring.

Same. My Marquardt Mini had a cable that was crumbling to bits. The outer insulation was decomposing into irritating plastic dust, which left the super cheapo inner cords all strained and snagged. So I yanked it off. Still need to convert that little board. It's actually quite a nice form factor, an...
