Oh come off it. How could anyone possibly say a bad thing about Cherry MX unless they're in the pocket of Big Alps? Get real, citizen!

Re: Vintage Increases Value?

What will the replacement for typing be? Will be submitting our brainscans to google? How would general typing going obsolete cause collectors to stop collecting? BCI devices will, whether we like it or not, probably become as standard as smartphones are today within the next decade or two. Tom Sco...

[…] As [Chyros] said 'imself, he's not making videos purely selflessly and for the good of the community, that's a secondary thing that happens to go with the territory. He's making videos because he likes making videos. […] So apparently the revenue aspect of being an "influencer" does not play th...

Re: Stuff you just bought

So… it works now? With the original circuitry intact?

I remember talking to Haata about converting mine but he said it'd need to be destructive. The controller is really bad: not even true 2KRO, depending on the keys if I recall.

Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards

I just wish Unicomp actually let us (or others in the keyboard community of their choice) beta test these things for them before final production. Controller issues are ****super annoying**** and tend to show up straight away. Unless you don't have any people outside the building testing for you at ...

Seeing as you're here, Chyros: how are you getting along with the Unicomp SSK? We're just talking about it on another thread, and I brought up the issues you described in your review. Can't remember exactly what they were, though, just that they made my Unicomp alarm go off! https://deskthority.net/...

Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards

thinking of picking up one of Unicomp's new Ms just to try it out. Then I might go a little more vintage. Great starting point. If they were making them 10 years ago, I'd have grabbed one for myself and could* have been quite delighted. Compelling price. *Depends how janky it is when hooked up to a...

Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards

Depends on the caps and the chassis. Believe it or not: even linears can be very loud. Plate and chassis ring is definitely a thing: Apple M0110 original Macintosh keyboard I am looking at you! Honestly, that board is as loud as a Model M. Stabilisers can make a racket too, including on my HHKB in t...

Re: Best Silent Mechanical Boards

Topre comes in regular undamped and "Type-S" factory damped versions. My HHKB is the latter; while I after-market damped my Realforce myself. The damping turns a pretty quiet keyboard into a profoundly quiet keyboard. Regular Topre is about as loud as MX black. Type-S is comparable to MX silent.

Re: [Vendor] IBM Model F 122-key terminal keyboards - $500 shipped US/CA/DE/FR/UK

Oooh! I like my keyboards with half as many keys as these, so I'm good. But c'mon folks: get it while it's here to get! There will soon be a day when Model Fs just won't exist even at this price. Dirty, unconverted Kishsavers for $100 seemed like a lot back in their day! It's the way of the (keyboar...

Apex: Realforce R2, factory damped PFU edition. Assuming you like Topre. Ninja-grey Topres aren't really my style, either, but I bet that one types right satisfying and heavenly-like. It's not a shower, it's the kind of keyboard you just somehow always seem to actually use. ;) Spectacular board, JP! Reminds me of something … Got any plans to *use* it? A little more chall...

Also: l'd advise Pandrew's firmware over Xwhatsit's original. Pandrew's QMK port is much more flexible about signal strength, and he's still active too.

No need to worry about the *order* of the connections. These controllers are highly configurable. You just need to make sure you got them *all* hooked up. You can sort it out in the software.

Re: Longterm Daily Drivers

Perhaps I'll see if I can gather some statistics on it later. If you do, could you track SSK prices in the wild, too? I want to see what effect (if any at all) Unicomp's new production has had on their prices. I know we (rightly) prize SSKs here, but does the market at large? And to what extent whe...

Good point actually. Always encouraging when you can just buy all the parts you need, instead of needing to score a vintage board first.
