Looks great! But be careful laser etching ABS plastics. My local laser cutting facility won't let me do it since ABS releases hydrogen cyanide gas when lasered, so they say. I haven't looked into PBT yet. Yes, I haven't researched it yet. Some gasses will damage the laser cutter themselves too. Qui...

So after being happy with my AEKii http://deskthority.net/photos-f62/apple-extended-keyboard-ii-internal-pictures-t5297.html for a few years, I wanted to make a little more room for my Wacom on my desk. So I went back to my Apple Wireless Keyboard for a short while. Then I saved up and bought myself...

So, its been a while since I last posted here (3 years or so). I happily settled on my AEKii Modified and managed to escape for a while. However now I am back in my pursuit for a little more desk space and an arrangement to fit around my wacom. I figured where better place to start than to post my l...

Have you visited the Hackerspace over in Darmstadt? They might have access to a laser cutter and more.

This is basically what I would like to do for my wooden cases. The rest of the case would still be none laser cut, but having a solid base for the pcb is really key to making the cases feel great. Where abouts are you based TDub? If not to far away I might be able to help you out. Yeah, you could e...

I love your pictures as much as your CST trackball ones :D Would be too much to ask what setup do you use to take those pictures? I'm guessing a lightbox there. Not at all, most of it can either be learned yourself just by playing with your equipment, add in some pointers from the internet and you ...

Nice work, could do a numpad? Wow! It looks beautiful. How does it sound when bottoming out? I wood would guess it has a lighter, less metalic sound? Yeah, you could easily do a number pad. The main thing limiting me making a full size case is that I need a PCB, something either 60% or 75% in size....

Very cool. I have been thinking about using laser cutting for the PCB support in my wood cases. Right now I am glueing single pieces to the bottom of the case. But a laser cut plate would be much better. How much did your experiment cost? I have some laser cutted paint racks from Progressive engine...

Laser Cut wooden plate experiments.

Well, it seems everyone is going wood crazy today.

This is a small size experiment piece I made for playing around with tolerances for a cherry MX plate from laser cut wood.

Were you thinking of having it entirely flat then? Because I like the back of the keyboard to have a little height to it.

I guess you could add little legs to give that height, but design it to be as slim as possible.

I hope for you that will no longer be the case when you use one of your Hyper Keyboards ;-) If not you have some seriously small monitor... The Hyper7 will have a size of 8x28 keys, which is 533.40mm wide. sqrt((28*0.75)^2+(28*0.75/16*9)^2) == 24.09429717277513782927 " Does a 24" monitor even exist...

You have access to a laser-cutter? Jealous I am, in that case... By the way, why did you not put your USB converter inside the keyboard and used a USB cable? I have access to one at my local hackspace. I did think about putting the converter inside the keyboard, the AEKii has plenty of room due to ...

I laser cut some back panel pieces for this yesterday. It matches the iMate case I made, and the media tags.

Here are a couple of pictures showing off the mod.

The advantage to using an external controller is that it reduces the need for for people to do surface mount soldering.

I reckon the extra cost would balance out either way. Its just a case of finding someone who would do that.

Exactly, if we prototype in house, then it would need to make use of a soldered on controller, like a teensy or some such.

I will measure the tank and take it from there.

yes, I was planning to order at least 2-3 PCBs anyway. I checked a couple of services. A 280x90 PBC costs approx €40 at low quantities (but it's very cheap for 50+, so good news for the GB). Regarding license it will be CC on images and text and GPL on code. Wondering if I should open a website for...

Yeah, I had noticed you said it was going to be open source. Are you familiar with the Creative Commons licenses? Also, I need to double check our developing tank, but I reckon we might just get away with me making prototype PCB's myself if they are single sided. I did a little research, most the pe...

Ok, cool 299mm wide is just within the scope of the size I can cut myself, so I am happy to prototype this. I will likely have to order some 1.5mm acrylic though. Plus the tolerances on a laser cutter are not as precise as a CNC milled case. It would be nice if people can download and laser cut/cnc ...

My standard material to use is 3mm for both acrylic and ply. However I know we can get up to 6mm deep on acrylic only.
(Though the laser cutter needs a bit of upkeep to get back to that point.

Whats the width/height of the individual plates?

Relocated connector on Apple Extended II keyboard.

The title really says it all. I am sure once upon a time it made more sense to have the cable come in at the side. Being able to choose one side or the other is quite a nice feature. However on my desk it makes more sense for a cable to join in on the back somewhere. So I decided to reroute the conn...

Excellent, thanks for taking the time to take a picture.

I should have thought really, it makes sense that the modern ones would have a much smaller circuit board, plus the improved sensor mechanism.

Practically nothing like the one I have.
