Re: Model M appreciation

Who still uses it as daily driver? Why/why not? I would but as my sleep schedule is rather erratic thanks to chronic insomnia and a lifetime of that "I have an awesome idea that I must act on immediately!" at 2am... well yeah, it keeps my gf awake and she gets grumpy about that, curiously enough. W...

Re: Keycaps: UK ISO Cyrillic a thing?

Thanks, guys. :) I shall try the DecentKeyboards guy (also recommend by... Mu, I think?) once I've actually specified what I want, which may take me a little while! And that's quite an interesting keyboard you have there, Inverse. May I ask what it is? I suppose nowadays LK200-type keyboards are rel...

Re: Keycaps: UK ISO Cyrillic a thing?

Handwritten stuff: "have you seen my handwriting?!" etc. I guess in a similar vein to "have you seen my driving?!" Custom: that looks interesting. And someone mentioned it once and I forgot. Also a Model M so yeah, if I'm going to be all clickety clackity I should do it properly and my SSKs are feel...

Keycaps: UK ISO Cyrillic a thing?

I'm slightly doing my head in with the keycap situation again, having never quite "got" the group buy thing, being typically indecisive and too late. As Model M/F will probably never be a thing, it's looking like MX is The Only Way. There's certainly plenty of choices out there but of course being m...

Re: Alps keyboard: Matias, Custom or Ebay??

Sounds like the better option. I bought a Matias a few months ago, and while it's a lovely little keyboard in terms of feel and so on, "shoulda listened to the complaints": I experienced all the usual problems of key-bounce, chatter, just not registering at all and so on. From what I've gathered it'...

Re: Origin of each country's QWERTY keyboard layout?

There's indeed rather little to criticize in the Swedish layout — its only real deficiency is the lack of the backquote (`) and the non-combining tilde (~) and caret (^) characters, the three of which see heavy usage among programmers. Of course, it could be revised to add a select few "new" letter...

Re: Origin of each country's QWERTY keyboard layout?

No, but properly designed layouts do have properly configured diaeresis/umlaut dead key that allows typing the combining code point. I live for the day where Spin̈al Tap demands the Unicode Consortium add the precomposed N̈/n̈ code points. Compose key for me; except this is my new desktop...

Re: Origin of each country's QWERTY keyboard layout?

I guess my "...?" was due to it also being used in various loan-words in English (since English is sort of the magpie of linguistics in that it'll steal anything that's shiny enough) and features words such as façade, but my understanding, admittedly speaking as someone who is a bit crap at language...

Re: ISO users

The compose key: I'm astonished it never found its way into Windows as it's so useful for doing stuff like this on any keyboard without needing to know arcane and obscure control codes. There are a few fiddly examples (e.g. ñ is particularly irritating to type IME) but they can generally be reprogr...

Bind them on a different layer, CTRL+e = è , CTRL+SHIFT+e =é or such. Or just give me a generic accent key to press after the letter: many italians, when they need the accented capitalized Es. I dont know how so many people game on model Ms, the 2kro made me have limited amount of strafing in certain ways in multiple games I've played. Re: Gaming Keyboard - Looking for Advice

What is wrong with Matias QA? Aside from some minor lube issues? They're quite well known for key-bounce and/or non-registration issues that are not necessarily easy to resolve: might be the key construction, might be the firmware, might be bad soldering. Might just be the phases of the moon or wit...

Re: Daskeyboard Pro 4 and Matias Tactile Pro with Bouncing Issues

Such a shame that Matias have terrible QA and a shitty attitude to their customers: their keyboard would be lovely otherwise, but... well, they're sort of the Bethesda Softworks of the keyboard world. And keyboard co the EA Games. I'm sort of giving up on the idea of getting a decent modern keyboard...

It seems to come down to who you get: seems some of them are very helpful and others... less so. It is unfortunate about that policy (and that it seems some staff are prepared to enact it) though: I often won't even deal with companies I see trying to pull that sort of stunt in advance. Occasionally...

I'm not even going down the "trying my luck" route. Life's too short and I've dealt with too many companies who've given me the run-around when it comes to returning defective goods. Keyboard Co's terms offer less than the statutory minimum and when I emailed to clarify they had a seemingly more con...

Hmm, Keyboard Co are being more evasive now, with "if we can confirm a fault" (not helpful given its notoriously intermittent nature) and they dodged the matter of the return postage entirely. So I guess I'll keep the Mini and not order from them again.

Oh well. :/
