Re: JUKI FD-01R

Nice job on the cleanup of the caps. It's a shame that the case is in such a bad state but nevertheless it's an excellent find. JUKI stuff is so cool 😎

Re: IBM Model M Screw, Nut and Bolt Mod

Ah...is that what those things are for? I thought they were for holding the layers in place so that nothing shifted sideways. Anyway, I was pretty careless when I took the keyboard apart quite some time ago. I cut away most of those crescents but in the end everything still works and feels great. Yo...

Re: IBM Model M Screw, Nut and Bolt Mod

In spite of the miscegenation I have found that an Imperial 1/16" hole is perfect for an M2 screw because the screw will cut its way into the plastic and make a wonderful threaded socket for itself without need for a nut, or can forced in a little harder to function as a regular pilot hole. Exactly...

Re: IBM Model M Screw, Nut and Bolt Mod

Huge thread necro but just wanted to say thanks for this guide, Madhias. I did my first ever screw mod over the weekend and it went very well. I used these screws which are probably cheese-grade Chinesium given the price but they did the job. I also used a 1/16 imperial drill bit (1.59mm) which felt...

It looks like Rakuten might be one of the only places to get a new ANSI-layout one. Not sure if they ship directly to the UK though... https://item.rakuten.co.jp/fujitsucomponent/kb107/

They're great keyboards.

Sub-legends serve a purpose if you are using direct kana input as opposed to romaji in the case of Japanese. What you type on your keyboard then becomes the sub-legend. I suspect it's the same for Chinese and other languages too. It's not just for keyboard memesters :)

What's neat about the source of those images is that the two keyboards being reviewed appear to be the SE1100 and SE11B0, both listed on the Topre OEM Keyboards page as prototype models (10 of which were made in each colour). I am just using Google translate but it sounds like they were made availab...

Nice work!
That is a very obscure keyboard to just be finding Stateside -- sad that it was in such shitty condition too. The point about the double presses is likely the explanation for reports on the Realforce RGB having issues at the lowest actuation point setting.

The Libertouch is a hidden gem. I like them just as much as my Topre boards and their tactility is more crisp and sharp -- the only problem is they never made tenkeyless versions of them so I don't really use mine anymore. My daughter uses it instead :) Sadly, while cheaper than Topre, they're still...

I didn't think that PFU would ever be selling Realforces. Kinda odd.
I wonder if Topre will do their own ANSI Realforce R2 TKL at some point...I'll have to do another Realforce wiki page update over the weekend as I still haven't added the initial R2 RKL models yet.

Good advice above -- especially with regards to tightening screws. I usually alternate between left side and right side when doing the screws and don't over-tighten; as soon as the screw touches the PCB I give it a very gentle twist and that's it. The other thing I was thinking about when you mentio...

I haven't tried hypersphere or keyclack silencing rings but I do have factory silenced Realforce keyboards and I don't really like them, but that's just me -- I prefer the upstroke sound and feel of a standard 45g Realforce. The upstroke of BKE domes is a lot snappier I've heard so maybe silencing r...

I think it's just easier to install a whole sheet but good luck finding one in 55g. As for the individual BKE domes, I've heard conflicting reports, but overall they seem to get positive reviews.

And would the variable actuation still work?
Yep, just domes need replacing and variable actuation would still work.
