How quickly do they power up?

You could power up one row and while reading another and then turn off the row after reading....

This would require a fast start up time.

I have an option jumper which you can solder - it's two semi circles with a small gap been the two flats. If you add a connection between the two halves on the schematic you get a cut track which can be resoldered as needed.

The original boards were from Seeedstudio via their Fusion PCB store. You need to keep the PCB under 10cm x 10cm to get the low $20 for 10 price.

You may also be able to use individual pin socket inserts embedded in the PCB. These sockets can sit flush with the PCB depending on they style chosen.
