The "IBM numbering" is how it appears in the figure Laser attached in the previous post. "Ribbon numbering" is how a standard insulation-displacement ribbon cable is numbered, not IBM's wire bundle. For my Bigfoot controller, I cut one end off of a 20-pin flat ribbon cable, soldered the appropriate ...

If you're willing to travel further down the rabbit hole, you could always get one of these and convert it to a layout very similar to the standard 105-key ISO layout (except for having the function keys on the left). :evilgeek:

There is some debate as to why the older IBMs feel different than the newer ones or the Unicomps. Some people think it's because the key stems have had more time to polish against the barrels. The key stems and caps are PBT in either case. Regarding the Windows keys, you can remap any of the existin...

You might try a quality Cherry board with MX blues. They are lighter but still clicky. The wiki should have actuation forces for all the switches. If you can find one, try an IBM beamspring keyboard. It's probably closest to what you seek. There shouldn't be any real typing feel differences between ...

I bought some silver conductive paint a few months ago that came in a syringe, which allowed me to lay down a thick bead of paint on the membrane. I don't remember the exact resistance that resulted, but I'm pretty sure it was under 100 ohms. The resistance does indeed go down as the paint dries.

Wow, yours looks a lot nicer than mine did. That's OK, you paid for it in shipping cost. :P Does yours have a 5-pin DIN connector? I'm wondering if that would work with a Soarer's converter.

Assuming you are going to install the controller inside, one thing you might want to be careful of is the difference between the way IBM numbered the 20-pin connector and the way ribbon cables are usually numbered. Getting this wrong could fry something! This little diagram shows the difference: rib...

how many pins do I need to connect to the teensy? I'd like to use a DB15 to 8p8c connector, but I think 8 wires are not enough. You need 11 altogether: 7 muxstrobe, 1 strobe gate, 1 sense, +5V, ground. I think there is a larger version of the pro micro if thats easier to get for people in the EU Ye...

Hi, yes I did use Soarer's controller. You can't use a Pro Micro because it does not have enough contiguous pins for the multiplexer (muxstrobe_port PB6:0). I used an actual Teensy instead. I cut the end off an old 20-pin ribbon cable and soldered it to the Teensy and plugged the other end into the ...
