Re: Xwhatsit/CS-Compatible IBM 3277 PCB

Here it is, all hooked up. I'm using a zip-tied type b extension for now.. not the most elegant solution but works great. Base layout also wip. emdude, thanks again! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170808/812071bb97cbb87612caccaf2ded3aea.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170808/9a1091f45c4f1...

The tech wasn't able to find the drawing for the lid, so they have to measure the part again and make a new drawing. I'll reach out to him in about two week, when things die down at the shop. I'll keep you guys posted.

I went by the shop today to talk to the owner about doing a small run of the lids (5-10 units). They just moved to a larger location, so he has to pull the drawing from their old database and get back to me by Monday with pricing. Now, if we want to do this in the short term he said he can have them...

Thanks, the extra measurements would be great! I measured the thickness of my 3277's PCB and got ~1.2mm. I'm also glad to have found that Model 95 typewriter; it is the only IBM keyboard I have with an edge connector. I took measurements of the connector and have an image below. The pitch seems to ...

I'm in talks with a fabricator for the metal lid. I currently don't have a ton of free time to organize a large gb, so I'm considering of doing a mini run (depending on cost). These lids will be most likely 304 SS (.125"), laser cut and tig welded i.e. not cheap

Anyone interested?

I have completed an initial drawing for the top row pads as well as the bolt holes and attached a full-sized SVG and PDF. If anyone with a 3277 would like to print out and test the drawing, I would appreciate the extra feedback. I also updated the row/column key spacing, using a 19.125mm spacing no...

Re: IBM 3277 - 78 Key APL

Honestly, PCB replacement is probably the quickest (and safest) route to ground. I have a "test" beamspring PCB due back to be in a week or so. If it works as expected I could conceivably put one together for this layout too. Also, as a point of order... if you don't know how to program in APL, you...

See, auto mode is for people like me. As long as the lighting is not to bad I usually manage to photograph something that's at least slightly recognisable in the sludge. What I can produce with manual or raw modes is usually way worse. A low end phone camera on auto beats a high end DSLR on manual ...

Cameras are dumb... even the best ones will try to turn everything to sludge in auto mode. It can be very frustrating. Having a camera that allows you to shoot RAW (doesn't have to be expensive), in manual mode makes a world of difference. You can push/pull your white and color balance after the fac...

As far as I can tell, the 3277s were the first design of beam spring keyboard. As bizarre as it sounds, that PCB is beautiful! The tag on the connector says 'JUN 1 1979'. I really rather not hack into the PCB.. hoping we can get enough interest to create a replacement to use with a modern controller.

I've asked about this too, since I have a 3277 as well. I don't think there is any easy way to do it, since the controller is integrated into the pad card. Designing a brand-new xwhatsit/CommonSense-compatible PCB would probably be the most straightforward solution. Is there anyone that owns a 3277...
