So, if I'm getting this right, to send ¡ you need to press Shift + 1. But this isn't working on your XT? The strange part is that the same sequence Shift + 1 = ¡ is present on both your national language map that you show above, and the XT's legends. It should just work, for that particular legend ...

Yes Mu, my keyboard is working fine with an Spanish layout in Windows XP (for example, I got the Ñ and the question opening mark (¿).
