Re: Found an IBM M15 with Numpad in a Dumpster

BTW, does anyone know where I can find pictures of an opened-up M15? Want to ensure I open it to clean it as safe as possible. It is not like the M2 where you open it up and everything inside explodes, is it?

Nice!!! I think that accessory numpad is harder to find than the keyboard itself.
That is correct. Once I bought an M15 numpad on eBay for $200. Very rarely you can find the M15 numpad on eBay or anywhere else.

Found an IBM M15 with Numpad in a Dumpster

Haven't been posting much here. But... We do office moves at work often. When we do we put out dumpsters for us to recycle old hardware. I walked by one this morning, and I saw a numpad and thought "this looks interesting..." I picked it up and it looked like a M15 numpad, and I thought "no way!" Th...

Very cool. I have an M15 and luckily it is in excellent shape. If you need to make your own wire, here is a video of how I made cherry stabilizer wires. Should be similar process if you want to make them for the M15. Additional information is in the text below the video.

Cool project! How are you sourcing your Topre switches? I have 2 old Sony video editing keyboards after I harvested the caps off of them. May be the switches in them get to live another life.

If we want to change the case, we can do a lot of different things with the PCB because you won't be limited with the old design's shape and size. For example, you can move the thumb section out or change it to a different angle; add a row of function keys; or even add a 6-pack cluster and arrow key...

If you do want to change the layout that would require a new case design, I would be happy to make modification to my original ErgoDox case design.

Thanks for the link to the review. I didn't notice about the Esc key placement. My old habit of hitting Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up Windows Start menu will have to change. I also could do without the dedicated Cut/Copy/Paste/Undo keys. Ctrl-Z/X/C/V are plenty perfect.

I pre-ordered one from the next batch. As soon as I get mine, I will write a review and post it here. I hope it will be more March and less April... :) I will be able to take pictures of the new Ergo Pro next to IBM M15, Cherry MX5000, Kinesis, and Microsoft Natural Keyboard. And of course, ErgoDox.

I think this is one of the ones from Bryan_Twizzle on GH maybe 1.5 years ago. He had a bunch for sale from his dad or a relative. I bought a couple of SSKs from him. He even threw in a silver square lab Model M when I bought the second one. They were all dirty but after a clean up they all look like...

Seriously, with this mod, I like Cherry stabs on my KMAC and The Cheat way more than Costar on my Filcos now.

My problem is I have one other KMAC1 without the mod. And to do the mod, I would have to desolder all the switches to get to the Cherry stabs :-(

I have not seen the aluminum case myself and I didn't design it, so I don't know how it is made. It is all Mass Drop's. For the acrylic case, since acrylic is much weaker, you can't use a 1/16" thick acrylic plate as the mounting plate because it would flex too much. All acrylic cases I have seen so...

There are plenty of Americans on this board. You want to equate MMB to all of them? Don't lower yourself to MMB's level.
