This keyboard would be a lot sturdier if you add several posts in the middle which touch the bottom to prevent the top from bending.

I've hot glued cherry mx and I'll probably have to do the same on my in-the-works alps board. Alps have these wings or clips on the side which make them stick harder to the plate, so you could make it work without the glue. The fun think about keyboards is that they are pretty simple, so one doesn't need any kind of OS.
You can do everything in the main loop.

The keyboard sends USB HID codes (defined here http://www.usb.org/developers/hidpage/Hut1_12v2.pdf) Then the HID driver interprets them as the appropriate symbols. The bolts and spacer idea is pretty neat. It solves one problem with the acrylic keyboard designs.
Do you glue the spacer in the middle plate? Do you use a hexagonal spacer?
