XMIT Keyboards is on hiatus until the fall.

Hello! I wanted to let everyone know that the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated. XMIT Keyboards is going to take a break for a little while. There are a few reasons for this: - lost some help. MrsXMIT was between day jobs and able to help more for a couple of months. Sadly, that time ...

Re: [WTS] Ascaii's collection

I also received my parcel!!! Shipping took every bit of two months - thanks, global shipping crisis. But Ascaii was a stand-up gentleman and I never had any doubts I would, in fact, eventually see my keyboards.

Sales are suspended as I don't currently have the bandwidth to get keyboards out the door. I will update when sales are no longer suspended.

That looks a lot prettier than my vacation, which consists of doing non-keyboard things at home for a little while. Apologies to anyone waiting on a PM from me, it will be a few days longer.

Re: Seeking Soarer - evidence thread

Just wait a few weeks for Shallot to finish their QMK and Via/Vial converters. Will be even easier to configure than Soarer's, as well as be open-source, actually maintained, and the creater has not (and hopefully will not) ghost the project. I'm still waiting for Round 7, my Spherical Buckling Spr...

If we've devolved to ad hominem attacks and name calling, it means that we've run out of real arguments. The prior few posts are squarely in the bottom two tiers of Graham's hierarchy of disagreement. 1200px-The_Debate_Pyramid_v2_Detailed_TT_Norms_Medium_Text_Outlined.svg.png If something terrible d...

esr, as I said in PM, it's so nice to see you here on Deskthority. Ah! Expertise sighted off the starboard bow! I'll write to you in private about the reverse engineer and his Soarer project. I've pinged him. Relevant fact: Soarer has been disappeared for 7 years. In Great Britain where he was domiciled (and in the U.S. which inherited British common law) that is ...

Re: Best Keyboards Ever: A Deep Dive (Documentary)

Did you talk about dye sublimation and the single key profile? Both of these were cost saving measures. No mention of that yet. I don't think it's very important for this video to get into details of cost-saving tactics except as they directly affect keyfeel. Cost reduction is an important theme in...

Re: Best Keyboards Ever: A Deep Dive (Documentary)

Muirium I'm working on a fairly long, technical deep dive on the Model M's matrix so I am familiar. A few kind folks have reviewed it and provided some excellent feedback so far. I don't want to waste anyone's time until I've incorporated their revisions. But, for the Model M, it suffices to say tha...

Re: Best Keyboards Ever: A Deep Dive (Documentary)

I will have more to say later. Apologies for the few, rambling thoughts. HaaTa has force curves on plot.ly/~haata that show many (possibly all?) of the keyboards you describe. It took me ages to wrap my head around how a buckling spring board works so an animation would be super helpful. Did you tal...

.doc  Please use one of the many open file formats. PDF, text file, .odf, or just pasting inline with a "spoiler" tag come to mind. It's plain text. I gave it a .doc extension only to pacify the uploader - it wouldn't take .adoc or .txt. Indeed it is. This is a forum bug, we should fix this.

Take note of the mold numbers along the way, did they change?

Your "types" will map to production line differences at the factory.

I still have a few F122s to sell with cracked cases. I'll be modding them with new top cases from donor boards.

The remaining boards are selling slowly due to cracked top cases. :(

I have managed to repair these boards using an M122 donor top case. See viewtopic.php?f=7&t=25813 for details.

IBM Model F122 Case Repair: Using A M122 Case

The PVC plastics used in the Model F122 case are notoriously brittle. They do not stand up to the weight of a ten pound or 4 kilogram keyboard. One false move and the top case is cracked. F122s are decently rare and finding replacement top cases is quite difficult. Fortunately, we have an ace in the...

The point of the "Ship of Theseus" thought experiment is that the notion of authenticity is entirely arbitrary and in the eye of the beholder. So, the answer is up to you.

I reached my keyboard inventory limit this weekend and have literally nowhere else to put things, apologies for being unable to do more. 5000 keyboards is a lot of keyboards. US-side $500 can get you cleaned, converted with new foam, and shipped I cannot match that. A foam mod is a major undertaking, about a four hour job, assuming the foam has already been procured. But I can throw in a free Soarer's Converter for the next two boards that go to US buyers. Please be sur...
