Re: Looking For Help With A Build

So, I like using key/mouse for gaming, however I ABHOR using the "WASD" keys. As a result, I move the keyboard to my left and use the arrow keys and the associated keys surrounding them. Are you aware of the Razer Tartarus and the older Belkin Nostromo? They might be just the ticket. Another weird ...

http://mal-2.binhoster.com/desk/quad-mon2.jpg The keyboard has been altered slightly since this was taken, the OS has gone from W7 to W10, and the hideously ugly mirror has been taken down. I think I've finally arrived at mine. Looks strange, but doesn't feel strange. The most recent changes were to cut the graphic symbol keys from 18 to 15 (they still have Shift and Ctrl and Alt states) to make room for PrtSc/ScrollLock/Pause which in turn pushed the Greek and F-keys to the left by on...

It has been quite some time since I checked in here, so I figured I'd update the image of the Cherry Battleship.

There have been some minor layout tweaks in the Numpad area and the backplane but the concept hasn't really changed.

I would rather solve the problem of ctrl being way out in no-finger-land by having four modes to the left, five to the right, and thus putting ctrl closer to the center and having the left-most and right-most mod be something like hyper or funct. This is why I pull Ctrl in to be next to Alt, with t...

I know it sounds crazy to most people but I want an enter key at least 2.5u on both sides of the keyboard as well as duplicate backspace keys. And don't get me started on escape. I use it a lot and I would like to see it bigger and not so far away. Your duplicate Backspace is at least a solved prob...

Hearing Muirium say his username and how he says tenk-less is rather amusing as well. It actually says "TENKLESS" on the label, and "Muirium" sounds exactly like I thought it would. What threw me is that I can't really pin his accent/dialect down to any one location. It seems to have elements of se...

At this point, I'd find a way to connect a moderately safe (for you) but damaging voltage to the USB cord, backward. (Meaning, send 12V at it, backward.) Let the magic smoke out. Then let them try to tell you it's a "firmware crash". Fuck them if they're going to attempt to dodge legitimate warranty...

This looks quite a bit different from a Cherry G83, which uses a circular stem exactly ¼" in diameter, and a flat tab at the 12 o'clock position to keep the keys from rotating. The G86 uses pretty much the same thing, except that the keys have two tabs, the location of the second one varying to keep...

Many rubber domes are often around 65g, which you would need to bash to the bottom to actuate. I don't know what boards those might be, do you have examples? Every rubber dome I've used has either been really light and activated at or very close to the bottom (just about all the cheap ones), or mod...

On an actual typewriter, the shift lock actually moved the entire mechanism downwards and held it there. And Apple keyboards have locking Alps switches for that key. This is all true, but Shift is represented with an upward arrow even though it historically lowered the carriage. Interestingly, Cher...

It's slightly off-center because of the support beam underneath, but not enough to matter. rivet1.jpg ri...

Adding home key bumps that last.

Part of the difficulty of using an alternate layout is that the home key bumps are out of place. Getting rid of the old ones is generally not too hard, but what can be done about raising new ones? I have been using a dab of hot glue, but that either wears down or gets squashed flat over the course o...

Redmaus wrote: Why do some caps locks point down?
I would imagine it is analogous to "holding the Shift key down". Shift down = LETTERS UP, so that is inherently backward. Thus any arrow-derived representation of a lock for Shift will be backward with regard to one or the other.

The Battleship has been updated. I finally invested ten bucks in a real wrist rest, and with the slightly increased clearance it became possible to move the alpha area up another row to get around the whole trackpad thing. This kicked the F-keys onto the backplane portion, but also freed up enough s...

ID-ten-T error: aka, the ID-10-T error. Usually verbalized as first listed, this is not restricted to userspace. Sysadmins perform plenty of ID-10-T errors of their own.

I had the same problem with a game controller. The cable was wrapped around it and it sat in a drawer for a couple of years, leaving sticky channels with raised edges much like yours, only worse (because the cable was pulled tight). It's also worse because the damage is right there in my hands.
