Re: [WTS] Olivetti KBD-2812 Cherry G81

not MX, or at least most keycaps aren't MX compatible... quite shitty those are not even "made by Cherry" caps, it is worthwhile to mention! Interesting. What's the telltale? I get that the seller is scammy—first rule of keyboard club: never argue with Kbdfr!—but how can you tell this about the cap...

Will the new nixie be identical to the old one? I suppose that they were smooth, and with a good deep sound, which they can presumably replicate easily given that they know all the specs??

Re: [IC] Go-Popper V2 | 2-in-1 switch opener

I have no idea, I have three different CNC switch openers and they all suck. You just have to use a plastic switch opener to understand how big is the difference. There's simply no comparison. It has to do with the friction, with how much more precise is a plastic mold than cnc, about the surface fi...

Re: [IC] Go-Popper V2 | 2-in-1 switch opener

I have some cnc switch openers and they all suck.

The best one is the glorious switch opener, it's made of plastic and opening switches with it is way easier: lower friction and better surfaces make the operation a breeze. I've used it for about 300 switches and it is like new.

I'm discussing about 500 eur, can this sum be considered a fair price for this kind of beast? What is a fair price for an IBM 5110-3 (5120)t? Re: G81-1000 HBD /03

Don't waste your time with that horrible keyboard. You can mod it 1000 times but it will still suck.

Case is horrible and creaky.

It is too light.

Feet are bad.

The border is too big, and its shape somehow hurts my hands (no, my hands are big thank you).

Caps are good though.

I don't know any, but that is more of a procedure issue. If we find one, we can just send them a spring and tell them "I want an exact copy of that, ok thanks bye" :D Alright, I'll take on the task of going to a mechanics lab and measuring what I can on the F springs :D Won't be this week though. Any update, how does it feel after a month of use? Would you suggest people to try the mod? Re: Best lube for SMK Second Gen switches?

Quite off-topic, but I've also found another krytox, the 105 (or maybe 103?) sold as bike lube, it's the sb-10, which I used for linears and springs. My keyboard, after a couple of years, it's still good. available in many places, including ebay https://www.starblubike.com/oils/olio-lubrificante-100...

Re: Vintage Blacks cleaning, matching parts

I have a pile of vintage blacks that I pulled out of a Wyse PCE (for restoration!), and they're filthy. Covered in corrosion from the PCB, gunk, etc. I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I picked up from Amazon, and I'd like to clean the switches properly. However, I really don't want to spend a bunch...

Removing the springs from the model m seems quite difficult: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?t=19677 It’s possible. I’ve done Ms and Fs with a sharpened matchstick. The “chopstick method” can be fiddly but once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll have a slow and fiddly skill you won’t need very ...
