Thanks @mtl for the response. You could also solder pins to these PCBs and plug them into an underlying board with sockets, and possibly make a keyboard that supports reconfigurable switch layouts. This is a great idea!! Maybe you could include holes for pins so that they can be aligned with .1" ho...

This is cool. But why are there small square boards and larger rectangular boards? What about the matrix that the switches fit in to? Is there a "generic" version of those, too, or what? Something you can use to put together to make whatever keyboard you want to make? I'm always thinking of my "Prog...

I didn't and don't understand what you are saying here, so I ignored your post.kps wrote: ↑I have made adapters for individual Cherry MX and ALPS SKC keys to 0.1 inch spacing.
After re-reading it, it sounds interesting.
I think photos would help to make your explanation understandable.

That would probably work. It might be harder. I'm not sure. Based on that, I was thinking, what about a "key switch socket" (basically what you're talking about), like an IC socket, that fits into a .1" perfboard, and then you just snap the key switches into them. I don't know if that would give you...

I want to be able to make this keyboard.
If I can't then it's worthless to me.

I don't know enough about all this to know what problems there are or may be. Are you saying that Cherry keyswitches need a big middle hole to seat into because they have a protrusion at the bottom? I'm not sure what the image is that you are showing. Is that an existing board example? Because it do...

Perfboard for keyboard key switches
Perfboard and other boards like that won't accept Cherry and most other key switches because the boards are on 0.1" / 2.54 mm centers. For those of us with less money and not as electronically astute (at making PCB boards, etc.), it would be nice to have a perfboard, with or without copper cladding ...

I assume most if not all of you know about this discussion forum.
This thread is of interest to me, and would be a decent keyboard
that would do most of what I want.

I stumbled upon the online Keyboard Layout Editor again and mocked up the "left side" (and a part of the right) of the keyboard because it doesn't support insanely-wide/large keyboard designs. I'll do the right-side extended keypad separately and merge the images. See attached image or check out lin...

Just stumbled upon this: http://techkeys.us/collections/accessories/products/the-enabler Only took me MONTHS to find it. I blame Google and all the other search engine people / companies who have totally screwed up search engine technology except for their own ill-gotten gains and (hidden) agendas. ...

{snip} Thanks. I guess some of those are so expensive in part because they don't sell very many. I didn't understand how those would work, or to what extent they would work. But I communicated with someone recently who said you can have several keyboards hooked up to your Windows PC at one time, al...

{snip} Thanks. There are so many keyboards around that it's almost impossible to find one that you are looking for. I hadn't even seen the Cherry 8200 before. It would be a decent choice over a custom-made keyboard. There are a few others, too. I like the look of the Logitech G510s, but it gets som...

{snip} To each their own. I am a very fast touch typist. You may think that using Shift and Control keys is "fast", but they actually slow you down quite a bit. The "extra keys" are not that far away from the "standard keyboard" that a "touch typist" can't take easy advantage of them. Not any diffe...

DIY Calculator-like Keyboard
I don't know if this is a good place to ask about this, but I want to make a customized calculator-like keyboard for a retro-computing project. I've looked around on the Net and did some searching, but I can't find anything that would work. I may not know what to search for or be using the correct t...

A Programmer's Keyboard Design
If I could, I would have a custom-made keyboard in this design. It is specifically designed for use by Computer Programmers of various kinds and languages. (English-based) It is in "beta-design". programmers-keyboard.png First of all, at this late date, it is absolutely ridiculous to have to be pres...
