Re: IBM Model F AT Accidentally bought for... $5!

I realize this thread is a few years old, but when I stumbled across it just now I was so amused I had to say something. What incredible luck! These are going for around ~$400 US now, I think... No doubt you're still enjoying typing on it, as most of these all-time great keebs would last virtually f...

Re: HyperX Alloy Origins

Nobody replied? That was an excellent and very thoughtful review, so thanks (even though I'm late saying it!). I agree, I think HyperX Alloy boards and switches are quite unappreciated. The boards are impressively solid, and the switches unquestionably beat the Cherry MX switches that "inspired" the...

I realize this is an o-l-d topic, but when I saw it in a Google search just now, I felt compelled to contribute this reply:

No, but my wife's has. :D

Re: I Plug In, I Type: Steel Series Apex Pro

I bought mine lightly used, just after they came out. I saved a bunch of cash... Well, they are Hall Effect switches, right? So, theoretically, the longest-lasting switches in the known universe. As my wife's dad would've said, they'll probably "see us out". I rather like the caps that come with th...

Re: I Plug In, I Type: Steel Series Apex Pro

O.K., so the first impressions of the Steel Series Apex Pro is that yes, the switches are smooth, yes I can type fast on it but gosh darn, they ain't remarkable. The keyboard actually feels kinda cheap [in construction/materials]. The caps don't feel too bad or look too bad but yeh, I am underwhelm...

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

Robb: Outstanding, inspiring work! Thanks for sharing in such detail. How did you make such neat holes in your padding? A metal punch that you tap with a mallet, so you can align it as accurately as possible? But even then... I can't imagine another way, outside of having an actual machine tool of s...

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I might have something of value to add to the topic. From what I've seen of movie and TV props, I'm guessing this is a one-off pseudo-keyboard assembled from various parts. The text on it looks like it was applied from rub-on type sheets, and the terms the...

That makes sense. The keyboard is a '93 IBM made one so it fit's into the timeline. This is a '93 Model M? But it's obviously the inner assembly from one M, put in one of Unicomp's surplus blue-logo Industrial cases (the only blue-logo Industrial anything, AFAIK)—and with the original keys replaced...
