Re: Glove80: split ergonomic keyboard on Kickstarter

With keyboards powered by firmware like ZMK, QMK et al (Ergodox EZ, Moonlander, Planck, Keyboard.io, etc) you almost always create and/or tweak your own keyboard layout/configuration. It has some learning curve, but once you are get used to customizing your config, it's a chore to use a keyboard wi...

Re: Glove80: split ergonomic keyboard on Kickstarter

I really wish creators of all those ergonomic keyboards thought about languages that have more letters than English. I mostly type in English these days but I still use Russian occasionally, and any keyboard that does not have keys to the right of P (namely, '[' and ']') available without modifiers ...

Re: Karabiner

Maybe if I defined it in there… I'm guessing just LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8 should do the trick? All too literally guessing! No, it should be: export LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8 Your .zprofile is still a regular shell script, but it's supposed to be executed automatically when you log into the system. Re: Karabiner

Karabiner's lead dev got back to me. Apparently I just need to prefix export LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8; to my command-line scripts. Dirty but it works. Instead of editing all of your scripts, you could try adding this line to your ~/.bash_profile or whatever its replacement is in recent versions of macOS,...

Re: Karabiner

As far as laptops go, the Air's keyboard is obviously much better than those from the horrific "Butterfly" era. I tried them at our local Apple dealership and did not like them at all. I prefer the crisp "snap" of the butterfly keyboard, but yeah, the butterfly's reliability was a bit hit-and-miss ...

Re: I found an IBM Model M and then realized that the computer above it was a PS/2 8555

It would have been a perfect computer for early to mid-era DOS games... except that it uses the ill-fated MCA bus and you can't use a normal AdLib/SoundBlaster-compatible sound card with it.

Re: "First" mechanical keyboard (ISO needed)

I don't know any keyboards that are both wireless and hot-swappable. (It doesn't mean that there aren't any, though.) But if you're willing to forgo the latter requirement, I'd recommend the ISO version of Filco Majestouch 2 Convertible. They are available in both full-size and TKL versions.

Re: Modern switch similar to linear "Space Invaders"?

The most notable thing about linear Space Invaders, to me, is not so much their smoothness, but rather their stability. They're almost completely wobble-free and typing on them feels very "precise". I could be wrong, but I don't think any current MX style switch is likely to give you that precise f...

If you don't mind (well, even if you do -- it's not like you can stop me :D), I'll answer your question with a question: is there any particular reason not to just stock up on Hi-Teks? Re: Do I want too much from Apple?

Holy thread necro Batman! I'm happy to report that I'm in the process of disentangling myself from Apple's ecosystem. I was thinking about it for a long while. Apple's software quality has gone to shit; not only that, but their stance towards users is increasingly hostile. These days macOS users are...

Modern switch similar to linear "Space Invaders"?

Hi fellow keyboard enthusiasts. I always thought that I was more of a tactile/clicks kind of guy, but several years ago I got a free Cherry G80-3000-LPMEU from my company (they were going to throw it away because they no longer had any computers with PS/2 ports) and discovered that I actually prefer...

Re: ELITEBOOK keyboard rant

My workplace issued me a Zbook 15 which has exactly the same keyboard. It feels very strange, the keys have lots of initial resistance and then they just give up completely and have no resistance at all. Just awful. The layout is also rather strange, I press 0/Insert on the numpad all the time when ...

WTB: Cherry G80-3000 WKL

Hi all,

I'm looking for a winkeyless Cherry G80-3000 keyboard in ANSI, something like G80-3000HAU.

I don't need the keycaps.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you're willing to part with one of those :D

I'm located in Ireland.

WKL keyboard options?

Hello guys and girls, I've been going through my junk possessions recently and came across a full set of Cherry ANSI doubleshots. Being winkeyless, they're not compatible with any of my keyboards, but they're so lovely it's a shame to just let them sit in the cupboard. So, my question is: what are m...

One final note: I should have put a heavier switch (something like MX Black) under the space bar, right now I can trigger it just with the weight of my thumb and it's not always convenient.

Yes, it's a surprisingly decent little keyboard, I think the layout is the perfect compromise between size and utility. Typing this right now on my rebuilt MF68 and it feels and sounds excellent. The only huge mistake I made is that I completely forgot to lube the stabilisers on Shift/Enter/Backspac...

Just three days in, the keyboard stopped working. I opened it up and discovered that the very stiff cable I used to make the pigtail... simply sheared the micro USB port off the Pro Micro. Re: Objective reasons for using a mechanical keyboard

My wife loves her Apple Magic Keyboard that came with her iMac. She feels that typing on a mechanical keyboard with long key travel is "more work". She's a university professor and author, and before that she was a journalist and a post-grad student, so I'd argue she does her fair share of typing an...
