Re: Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

Layout is not a real problem, I used ansi for many years. It's actually a bit better for my job in IT :D
I have to configure the layout a bit for my umlauts, that's all.

And the switches, yeah, we'll see about them ;)

Re: Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

OK, I finally got it! I went with the ansi version of the TAB75... Not by choice but by mistake :D Spent 120€ including shipping. I really like the build quality and the slight texture on the keycaps and the case. And the color scheme is just what I wanted, it has a tiny retro look to it. The caps f...

Re: Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm still waiting for my TAB75 to arrive - looks like the shop is on holidays...

And yes, that one is not a classic choice :D But the color scheme is OK and I like the small form factor.

I'll let you know what I think of it when it finally arrives!

Re: Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

Thanks for the suggestions so far! The Keychron C1 looks really good - and it's cheap. I also found a Vortex TAB75 - which I ordered with mx blues, just to give it a try. It's very compact but still has all the keys I need. And yeah, candykeys.com, which had it in stock, is located in Germany ISO DE...

Re: Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

I don't know, that bottoming out never felt good to me. I love a tactile switch more, I think the sound may have to do something with that as well. In hindsight, the Realforce definitely was the better choice compared to the MX blacks for example. I see there's a silent option for the Realforce - ma...

Looking for a TKL with a classic look and clicky switches

Hi all, I had a regular Model M or SSK for many years and eventually sold them because I thought they were a tiny bit too loud and took away too much space. I miss them... I bought a Ducky One 2 and I'm really happy with the build quality and I went with mx blacks once and mx reds the other time. Th...

Re: What are you listening to at the moment?

I have been very inactive in this forum... My interests do shift over time so now I only use mechanical keyboards but don't buy them actively anymore :D In the beginning of 2021 I started to make electronic music on hardware devices (real hardware is always nicer, that's what drew me to keyboards in...

Re: Linux DAC USB headphones+mic+speakers suggestions?

If it's in your price range: Motu M2 In my experience, it's the best sound device you can get for that kind of thing right now. If your headphones are not too hard to drive then is also has a very competent headphone amplifier. Measurements: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads...

Yes, if you don't mind a bit noise, get the Model M again. It's my favorite keyboard as well. I use others if I need a more silent alternative but I only feel at home with the Model M.

Re: Suggestions for a plain, but heavy-duty mouse ?

I'd look at something where the plastic will not get shiny after one year or so. The rubber parts of the old Logitech MX518 turns into a sticky mess after a few years of use so I would avoid mice with any kind of rubber texture. I have a Razer Viper Mini (with lighting turned off) which looks like i...

Re: Ergonomics and desk setups?

For me the biggest difference is an adjustable desk so that you can stand up and work that way for an hour or two, then you change back and repeat that through the day. No need for a really fancy chair if you're only sitting there for an hour ;) Get up every now and then and you'll be fine.

I wonder if these are the correct ones, they do look like the Kailh you mentioned: https://www.ebay.de/itm/20x-Mute-Button ... 4406726448

Anyway, for 5 euros the risk is acceptable.

Re: Trackball for smaller hands

I think I fixed the Slimblade! I opened the housing and filed a tiny amount of the plastic away where a part of the button touches the case. That part is there to keep the buttons in place so that they don't move sideways, I think. Now the buttons work just fine - the click action is not perfect but...

Re: Trackball for smaller hands

OK, feedback on the Kensingtons: The Slimblade does have a nice form factor for me but the buttons are a joke. The top buttons don't even move freely because they scratch against the case. And all feel different and are a bit hard to press. I actually like the scroll mechanism if it wasn't so slow b...

Re: Trackball for smaller hands

A little bit of bending is fine for me because I have absolutely no problem with normal mice and my desk at home is set to 64cm in height. Those at work can also be adjusted in height. Regarding the M570: I removed the spring inside the scrolling wheel. Now. it's free floating and silent like many m...

Re: Trackball for smaller hands

Thanks for the info regarding the Logitech Marble! I did try it a few years ago and it fits my hands really good, too. But the missing scroll wheel really annoyed me. Re: Trackball for smaller hands

Thanks for the photo! The slimblade seems to have a better position for the wrist... I might try it sometime.

Just changed left and right mouse button switches on the M570, a bit nicer now! The switches from the MX518 are much lighter in comparison.

Re: Trackball for smaller hands

Update, I orderd an Elecom EX-G Pro (~70 euros). Short summary: - buttons are easier to click than the M570 (a good thing) - scroll wheel operates easily but feels cheap and make quite some noise - enough buttons in a comfortable position, I especially like the one for the ring finger - in general t...

Trackball for smaller hands

I've been using a mouse as input device for more than 30 years but never had any issues. Possibly my bones adjusted to the posture when I was a child, so I never had any issues even though I've been working in IT all the time :D But I do like to try out new input devices every now and then! So I did...

[WTB] One switch Cherry MX Blue or Kailh Green

Hi all, I found a used Razer Blackwidow 2014 in the trash and wanted to restore it but exactly one switch is broken. I desoldered it and found out that one leg of the switch just broke off. So I'm looking for a replacement here, the board comes with Kailh Greens but MX Blues should work as well. Tha...

Re: New ThinkPad Trackpoint Keyboard II

I think scroll lock and pause still work on FreeBSD (possibly Linux as well) for example if you work on the console! The machine is booting up and if there's a kernel panic or anything like that, you have the possibility to look up any error messages. Otherwise impossible, unless you have some other...

it's about €1200-1400 per year for the server (and backups).
Sent some money as well! What kind of hellish machine is being used here? Does deskthority really generate that much traffic? :D

A root server with 4 cpu cores, 16GB RAM and some storage should cost you less than 15 euros per month.

Re: has the trackball landscape changed in any way lately?

Yep, I hated that scroll wheel, too. I never really found any trackball useful for me, either my thumb or my wrist hurts after a few minutes of use.

But I don't have any problems using normal mice, so I can live with that. But I'm always eager to find new input methods ;)
