Re: How Cherry has fallen

I've put Vintage stems into modern casings. The stems matter more than the housings--it is what the cap is connected to. There's a tiny amount of variance and wobble area where the stem may "rub" on different parts of the bottom housing, however, it will always be directly connected to the stem itse...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

honestly if windows had a decent terminal I wouldn't have problems using it. they say the latest version added some linux flavor (much like wine for linux). I got to try that. I installed it recently on a desktop! It is Ubuntu that can interface with the w32 kernel. It's rather great! Sent from my ...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

I feel like we keep going back and forth on hating macOS more than we hate on the MacBook Pro. What are we trying to hate on in this thread? Let's be consistent! [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] That being said, I still love macOS so, so much. I just don't like the pricing and the design details of the MacB...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

Chromebooks handle most use cases for me (consumption, Mac Pro for creation). The components I enjoyed about my old MacBook (12" Retina) is honestly addressed by my Dell Chromebook 13 - 7310.

Clearly you have not traveled to America recently. They have the coffee shop market cornered here. I haven't. Coffee shop means something different here. Not some place you show off your laptop but really are just sitting there and using YouTube, headphones optional? [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] ...

Re: How (un)safe is using plate-mount MX switches without a plate?

You will also get severe issues with switch alignment. Just the center nub and the two contact aren't enough to perfectly align a switch. Might still look okay with a 1u key but as soon as you put 1.5u keys on them they will just look shit. I even use PCB mount switches for stabilized and bottom ro...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

I believe Apple made a smart move by releasing just these (overpriced) laptops at this time. Considering how old the other Macs are now, these laptops are the only way you can use macos today (if you are in for a new pc). It's not a matter of lack of ports or cost of adapters, to me it is simply no...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

IBM’s “Common User Access” was a half-assed imitation of the Apple HIG, but designed for inferior and less standardized hardware. Apple’s user interface people in the mid 1980s were the best in the industry by a wide margin. Agreed that Apple hasn’t done the best job keeping up with the original go...

Re: Alternatives to dissapointed Mac users

I picked a T460p as it had the best processing power (Quad) in the smallest package that I could find (14"). Also coming from my work computer (Apple rMBP) I'm addicted to high resolution. I also opted for integrated graphics only because of Linux headaches around NVIDIA Optimus. If you go Lenovo, s...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

I'm set to receive my ThinkPad T460p this week. It is the only 14" portable computer that I could find to fit the bill: i7-6820HQ and a 2560x1440 panel. There's been changes with Lenovo keyboards as well, and I am hoping it is still a nice experience. I do software development so Linux use is just f...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

Yeah. I can't swallow the price of the new MacBook... I ended up with a T460p, i7-6820HQ, 192gb SSD (upgradable), 8gb RAM (upgradable), and the 14" 2560x1440 display for $879.99 USD. Add to that the tactile keyboard (there's a lottery to get lucky with the better of the two OEMs) but I'll take that ...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

I had an Alienware 13" with dual core Skylake i7 but it was easily struggling with my work (software creation and vector work). I am hoping this T460p with quad core Skylake i7 and a 2560x1440 14" display will do better. :) I'm obsessed with high-resolution. Maybe upgrading my Late 2013 (lol) Mac Pr...

Re: New Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

I'm an Apple fanboy through and through (who else would use a Mac Pro?) and I'm a little unhappy with the keyboard on the new Mac. Then again, we are all keyboard enthusiasts... I'm going to give the T460p a shot with the IPS display and quad core, in a 14" body it seems absolutely wonderful. :) Sen...

Re: A new car...

The Fiat-Chrysler brand generally has a shit reputation for reliability around here. Chryster, Dodge, RAM trucks, Jeeps....poor marks all around. I'd say the Jeep Wrangler is the only reliable, value-retaining one. I used to own one, after years of imports and it was a great experience. Mileage was...
