As a general rule I use powered USB hubs rated at a strong amperage for any USB keyboard connection.

You adapt your PS/2 keyboard to the 5 Pin DIN and then plug it into the soarer's converter.
Oh, I see. You are talking about using the Model M to test everything else BUT the XT.

You can test it with a passive PS/2 to 5 Pin DIN adapter.
But his Orihalcon cable only has a female DIN socket.

I am wondering whether the USB port in the computer is receiving the signal properly.

Re: Buckling Spring Switch Life

the barrel plate can break apart in the folds between the rows of keys and it can no longer be bolt-modded. It can still be bolt-modded, the screws will hold the pieces in place. There is no real reason that the barrel plate needs to be one piece anyway, the Model F has individual barrels after all...

Good idea! I am curious how it really compares to a solid sheet of foam, but it looks like an entirely satisfactory concept.

I recommend this strategy in any situation. You can't "know" a keyboard until you have used it for at least an hour or a week.

Re: Does this dampen my keyboard?

Just guessing, but the first one looks useless but the second on might be alright.

Sorbothane is generally considered the gold standard for dampening, but it is expensive.

Without a proper description of the problem and/or a picture it is very hard to make suggestions.

Specifically, what original parts, if any, were removed? We have to know the starting point to formulate a path forward.

Re: What fingers do you use to hit the spacebar?

There have been other threads like this.

I use thumbs, depending on where my hands are hovering over the keyboard I might use whichever is more convenient, but right is probably the default (70%-80%) with left as the alternate (20%-30%).

Opening an AT case is a terrifying endeavor, but although you feel certain that you will break it, the stubborn thing usually comes apart.

Hold it at the back and work it bit by bit like you are opening a book. It may take flapping it a little.

I have only had blue Alps and "pine" and "bamboo" whites. My experience indicates that the very early whites are almost identical to blue. My 2 favorites are keyboards that I transplanted blue Alps switches into - a Northgate Omnikey 101 and a Dell AT101W. Although the Northgate is an awesome and ha...

electric coyote also charges $300 for M122s. They just don't know what things are worth. Electric Coyote has been deeply involved in the business for quite awhile. There are patient sellers as well as patient buyers. That F-122 is dated 4th of July - I am surprised that the factory was open that day.

Sorry that it's late now, but if you are getting spare inserts it is good to nab a couple of the vertical ones, too. They are harder to find, for example the buckling spring typewriters have horizontals but no verticals. Depending on how far "off" the shaft is, I have successfully used something lik...

Re: Unicomp Model M Right Shift Key Issue

I have found that the easiest way to remove the insert is to bend a TINY hook (like the letter J) in the end of a paper clip wire. You can hook that just under the bottom edge of the insert and pull it out without scarring the inside cylinder surface. Since horizontal inserts have the hole centered,...

Re: Early membrane buckling spring hammer type in IBM 5441 keyboard

Those heavy 1-piece typewriter keys are excellent and I have used them quite a bit on my Model Fs that are daily drivers. That "Code" key is quite desirable for people who want a divided space bar. I haven't done it but I think that it can be paired with a long Right Shift (buy a blank one from Unic...
