On an unrelated note, what happens if you add someone to your Foes list?

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

If I understood correctly, the keyboards on those pallets still don’t have keycaps installed, and Ellipse has to do the dyesub and quality check (“each one by hand” was the intent if memory serves).

So I doubt these will start shipping out to customers the same day they arrive on Ellipses doorstep.

Re: Stuff you just bought

It’s a Weihrauch HW30S, a very low power springer, fitted with a nice Hawke Vantage IR 2-7x32AO scope. The limit for no-license ownership here is 10 joules but I ordered it from Germany where the limit is 7.5 J; in layman’s terms, it might kill a bird but it’ll barely break skin on a mammal (ok it’l...

Re: Burn him at the stake

Unpopular opinion: he’s not really wrong. I used a similar Dell rubberdome chiclet keyboard for years which frankly was a fine daily driver; it’s quiet, durable (ok maybe not takes-30-years-of-abuse-like-a-model-m durable, but spill resistant with solid legends), tactile, low profile. and cheap as c...

Re: Terminal Model M converting?

Awesome, thank you guys! Mine has the DIN plug and the kids use it to play with (my step daughter was always interested in my collection, so at one point I let her pick one of my less-precious boards, and she picked the M122), and lately I’ve been thinking I should convert it so they can use it with...

Terminal Model M converting?

Hi Here’s a silly question: Are terminal model Ms still not easily converted to USB? I recall a few years back when I got my terminal M-122, people were saying that they were essentially worthless since they couldn’t be converted like the normal PS2 connector models. But there’s been so much develop...

Re: More products added

Most product search pages use a separate search index ‘engine’ for that; the benefit is you get fast and powerful features like complex attribute filters, sorting, live search, freetext fuzzy search, etc. The drawback is one more component to configure and operate (e.g. reindexing nightly or wheneve...

Re: Keyboards need more alpha keys! But where to put them? How about in the middle?!

First of all, impressive work! I love the attention to variants and the detailed explanations for every change. There’s a lot to like here! A while back, I toyed with a solution to this problem myself, but I went with adding a column to the right of the alphas, and moving a few keys around to make i...

Unpopular opinions: Rubberdomes and scissor/butterfly switches aren’t really all that bad. Before joining DT I typed on Macbooks and on a Dell rubberdome with chiclet keys and really liked both; now, twenty-some mechanical and vintage keyboards later, I have owned Topres, Blue and Brown Alps, and Mo...

Re: [Restoration] IBM 4704 F77

Wow, amazing find - congrats and welcome to DT! As others have pointed out, the F77 is exceedingly rare, and while Ellipses recreation ‘only’ costs around USD 380, an original in any salvageable condition should easily fetch north of USD 1000, and could certainly go for USD 2000+ at auction on a goo...

No, those weren't NIB, but I seem to remember they were in great condition, and it was a LARGE lot of them (more than 100, IIRC). I still haven't found the GH thread. Well 100 is hard to beat  $150 is definitely not what I'm gonna price them at, I think the OG box and sealed cable adds value t...

Re: Some of my best finds from Computer Reset

As for the IBM 5140s it’s not uncommon to see SKCM browns sell for $4 per switch these days in great-or-NIB condition, and maybe $3 for decent condition. As a brown Alps hoarder and enthusiast I’d love to see these go for less but I can’t deny that they are worth those prices. The 5140 has around 60...

Re: Some of my best finds from Computer Reset

Thirty NIB SSKs :-O That’s unreal. I actually feel like $250 might be a little bit high when there’s suddenly 30 of them on the market at once and considering they’re being offered by someone in the community rather than an eBay parasite; that Geekhack sale comes to mind where they went for $150, bu...

Re: finally the kishsaver (or 60%) has been completed

I plan on cutting my AEK case down to 60%. Can you explain your process further for hiding the cut marks? your measurement for the cut is very important. give a bit more room for your first cut and use rough sand paper to sand down the plastic to fit. use static model cement to hide the seam, use f...
