Re: Ellipse Model F62 only rarely comes alive
I confirmed that an old Samsung (?) USB-C to USB-C charger cable worked fine in my testing. Interesting that it did not work in your testing and that you got it working with the Apple C to C cable. Maybe certain C to C cables have different pins wired, meaning some pins are left unwired? Maybe a USB...

DEC Ultrix Keyboard
Reading a page about a guy patching DEC Ultrix to run on a small single-board computer, I came across this: "It is not a dumb keyboard. It has regions of keys, a bell, some lights, and can support differing autorepeat settings per key group." Hm. Having the cursor keys repeat faster than the charact...

That's why I used weaselly passive voice. (Weasels always need their wiggle room!) I've no reason to trust the claim—"forums are for olds, youngs are strictly on <INSERT FAD HERE>"—either, but I surely hear it often enough. I think it's more of a personal taste than an age cohort thing. We "forum ty...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
30g sounds good, as it's always annoying to have to buy too much of something; as you'll know from your full KILO of the stuff. But the price is a bit teeth-baring. 1000 ÷ 30 = 33.3333 × $34 = $1133.33 of lube you think you've got there? Priced right, all 30 or so portions of the stuff seems quite l...

Re: Model F angle and curvature?
Magnificent, thank you! So for the Model M it’s 171mm wide and 12.5mm high, so it subtends an angle of 33° and has a radius of curvature of 300mm, or 11.8 inches (35 barleycorns or shoe size 12 for Chyros’s leftpondian fans). The bigger angle is not too surprising because it has to cover the F key r...

Re: Mechanical Keyboards with TouchID
TouchID is a hardware authentication mechanism, tied to the "secure enclave" on Apple's processors. I’m no engineer so I don't know the jargon, but the heart of it is a private encryption key, paired to your computer. It wouldn't be much of a hardware authenticator if you could just plug in another...

Here's today's creation: a keyboard expression calculator. Hit Control = and it takes the current text selection, evaluates it, and prints = then the result. Summer Sale - Many keyboards - UK/EU
Hello everyone, It's been a while. A growing family and sadly non-growing living space necessitate another big sale. But my loss is your gain! These are the first batch I've photographed - there'll be maybe 20 or so more later this week or next. I've been out of the loop for a bit but I think these ...

Re: Micro Switch SW Keyboard Module
Content deletion is a pain, isn't it? Voluntary bit-rot! Strikes me as a nice, early Micro Switch board, presumably from week 33 of 1969 going by the date code. The rail structure of the keyboard looks designed as a template for adapting to many arbitrary layouts, which is consistent with the low se...

Yes, the letter at the beginning of an IBM Model M serial number does mean something special. The letter indicates the plant where the keyboard was manufactured. This post is here should anybody try to understand how capsense actually works and how sense card looks like, capacitance-wise (and that I'll be able to later find what I did and what results I've got). by the way, you could also try rewriting the original firmware on the original controller. assembly is not that hard, you can just watch a 12 minute and 33 second youtube video and it'll tell you all you need to know. for reference, here's the instruction set for the intel 8051, a derivative of whic...

An odd firmware issue: In my testing the 4 rows connected to RP3 are all white at threshold 80 no matter if shorted or not, while RP4's rows behave normally (shorting a row 5-8 turns the row from gray to white in the ibm capsense utility. Here's pandrew's note: "For the original xwhatsit, I think it...

Keeping the original xwhatsit firmware alive: Is anyone up for creating a "0.9.3 version 2" firmware for the new 33 pin controller I'm testing this week? The changes are that caps is pin 18, pin 19 is Num, and pin 17 is Scroll. Because of these hardware variations, this will have to be a separate fi...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
Going by your picture , your right Shift is the regular (egregiously long) 2.75u key. HHKB style right Shift requires different barrel placement: 1.75u then 1u; not 1u then 1.75u as you have. IBM did this to support JIS layout with the same barrel frame, so I gather, as HHKB style split Shift just ...

The MK06 is a now obsolete KVM switching keyboard that can emulate a variety of trading keyboards. It is full-size, with three small LCD screens and two add-on keypads. The trading function keys tend to be garishly colored. The actual host connections, such as USB or PS2, as well as power for the ke...

PCB issue: I received the sample controllers from the most recent batch and it appears that the 6th and 10th pins from the left hand side result in the xwhatsit utility's entire matrix turning from grey to white, instead of just the selected row turning white. Thanks again pandrew for your help. It seems that as a general guideline, if the row or column reads 0 in the pandrew diagnostic tool's Signal Level Monitor, then there is possibly a short to ground and it is best to add a couple layers of insulating tape (polyimide/Kapton, electrical, Super 33, etc...
