... As a first attempt, you could just reflow the solder attached to that pin, in case it's just a flaky/marginal connection. Could try. Don't have access to a heat gun right now though, and i doubt a hair dryer will be enough.

The ribbon cable is a good sign. Likely direct access to the switch matrix. However, according to the wiki there’s no diodes so ghosting and masking could be a problem.

... caps can really help. Fortunately, MX is well supported for custom caps and even fairly comprehensive doubleshot sets with single unit mods. My Access-IS board has a 4-unit spacebar and a few 2-unit caps for vital things like Shift and Return, which help find my way around.
