I have seen this keyboard a million times, with the same layout, switches, RGB, keycaps, etc. It has no soul.
The review definitely reads like an advertissement to people who just discovered mechanical keyboards and have 50$ to spend.

Nice, where did you find it?
I would love to have the original connector for the F107.
If you intend to mod it with the xwhatsit controller and you don't know what to do with the connector, please PM me :)

I am talking about models Ms, not models Fs. Which Model M part number do you have with a square badge on the left?

I find it odd that someone pledged 1k$ for a full metal custom "Royal Edition" with zero mention / pictures on the kickstarter page.

Most Model M (if not all?) with a square badge have it on the right side.

Nice job on the restoration. I prefer to keep things as unmodified as possible but the LED lights is a nice touch.

Did the keyboard came with the original PCB? I feel like it could have been easier to plug the original PCB to a Pro Micro with Soarer firmware, which also handles LED lights nicely.

Thanks @fohat for the detailed explanation on how to remove/put back the stabilizers. In my case, unless I can find a source of stabilizers, I will try to 3D print them eventually. So how did you go about derusting it? In my case, I used a dremel with a P80 grit sandpaper. It took care of removing t...

you could also run the off the selector switch back to the controller, and select the profile you want for each port, but you will need a little code, so...? As far as I know, Soarer disappeared without releasing the source code of his converter so I am stuck with a black box. I can't add code to i...

I think I understand what you mean and for that I must choose a "break-before-make" switch (which I think I would need anyway), which opens the current signal path before closing the new signal path.

Here is a rough draft of what I want to do: pcb.png I don't know how I could reset the micro-controller automatically when switching from one connector to another (ideas?) so my current hack is to simply add another switch to reset the micro-controller. You can replace screws but the heads will probably be different, Philips-head is easiest. Fs have metal sleeve inserts and use machine screws, while Ms have screws that are more like wood screws with aggressive threads. I will try to find a perfect match for the screws: Machine screw 5.5 mm (7/32 i...

Thank you all for your comments! The other option is just taking a lot of care to mask over it and spray in very thin coats so it doesn't wick under the masking tape. Yes this is probably the only viable solution and not hard to accomplish / succeed. I like your idea of taking the plastic bar on a M...

IBM F122 restoration log

This is a quick one because I lost most of the pictures in a sudo cp maneuver and the keyboard was in a good shape overall. I bought this keyboard for 90$ shipped (!) from Halverson @ GH and I can't thank him enough for this tremendous price. De-rusted and painted the inside of the back plate No bef...

One easy and cheap way to get a 6-pin (3x2) connector to plug into the existing controller is to use an old IDE cable and literally cut a plastic block of 6 holes of connector off the end, along with a couple of inches of the wires associated with them. Disregard the 2 that aren't needed and connec...

I like the raffle idea and I would go one step further and only sell to someone who doesn't own a beamspring yet!

250$ seems too low though, he could definitely get more on eBay. I feel like 400-500$ is more fair.

That seems crazy expensive, unless you are in a hurry. Yes, you're right and I am not in a hurry. Things you can try: 1. Add solder on the leads of your capacitors before trying to solder them to the pads. 2. Add solder on the pads before trying to solder the capacitors on them. In both cases, apply a little bit of solder paste on the capacitor leads and the PCB pads before applying the solder. ...

Looking for a female connector for the F122

Hi! Here is a picture of the F122 male connector (sorry for the VERY poor quality, I will upload a better one when I am at home): f122_connector.png This connector is a DIN-5 240 degrees and must ideally be screwed in the female connector. As Orihalcon states for one of his female connectors: The ad...

If the color is carefully selected and the keyboard is in dire need of a repaint, then I don't see the harm. As long as the history of the keyboard is respected in the restoration job. Well that's what I think, of course everyone can paint their keyboard the way they want, except in pink. Never pain...

The picture in the group buy doesn't seem to represent the end product. L1 in the diagram is supposed to be 150 mm, which hopefully is enough to avoid tension inside the F77 case.
