P1040604_s.jpg As you can imagine after seeing the internals of the orange Omron switch, it is tactile and clicky. The green switch, with its slim shell, has no space in there for the click leaf; therefore, it is linear. Though I did not open it, likely it contains the same switchplate assembly in ...

What everybody has been waiting for: switches! P1040528_s.jpg These are Omron switches, the most common orange type. A white switch for the spacebar, and some green switches in the upper clusters - to be discussed below. Switch shells labeled: OMRON B3G-S on the orange and white switches. Greens are...

Costar CSK-1101P: Compact Layout, Omron Switches

P1040659_s.jpg The Costar CSK-1101P is a vintage compact layout keyboard, made in Taiwan. The Koreans seem to have already reviewed it in 2006 http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/review/107648 , but the pictures do not load anymore. So I am not sure if their example was the US ANSI layout - probably so; how...

You're right, that server used to be very reliable but now, as it seems, not so much. I'd prefer to have the pictures reside on deskthority, but is there a way to inline them in forum posts? If uploaded as attachments, they get bunched up at the bottom of the post.

IIRC Sandy hypothesized that the problem with Fuhua Alps lies in the single asymmetric arm of their contact leaf that pushes on the slider sideways and kind of tries to rotate it; while Complicated Alps, with two symmetric arms, are much smoother. Does it seem that the Matias switch has this problem?

So, the switch is not that great? I had been eagerly waiting to hear your verdict on it, Daniel. The Matias switch has been touted as the second coming of Alps. - But wait, is it not basically the Fuhua Alps, which is the most simplified version? Do the "refinements" really have such a big impact? I...

I'm experimenting, learning about the different properties of the liquid and gel, and when to best use them.

The spray bottle is to moisturize the gel. If you let it dry out while still exposed to UV rays, it may have really unpleasant consequences for the plastic.

Because you mentioned the KPT switch, which I wasn't familiar with, I felt that I must open this thing up and compare. But no, quite a bit different. The biggest surprise came in the form of the inner spring:

I guess we can technically call it mid-travel actuation, but for some reason it's erratic and incosistent from switch to switch. Very different from the Clicker F-21. Poor quality springs maybe?

Here is what looks like a further development (i.e. simplification) of this type. This is a noname keyboard, made in Taiwan. http://s017.radikal.ru/i436/1304/fd/1180c1e20209.jpg The large external springs sit directly under the keycaps. It's a G83, non-mechanical as you correctly noticed. Doubleshots are not without their own drawbacks, but if I were using purely a us-ansi layout, I'd prefer doubleshots over dyesubs, for their greater durability and better contrast. But in order to also have Cyrillic legends in red, you need triple...

To be precise, techncally it is not quite a "preview" because the shade of white should be different in the "Vintage beige/white" and this "Modern Cherry albino grey" color schemes.

Hopefully this isn't completely the wrong place to ask — basically, Sandy had a lot of Alps info on his website, and it's not machine translatable (I get a load of complete nonsense). It looks like he's since erased the switch pages, but here's an archive one of them: http://web.archive.org/web/200...

The seller was responsible enough to send me a refund. I want to thank him:

"I got your refund, appreciate it. Although very rare, delivery times of 4 or 5 months are not unheard of, so if the item does arrive, I'll be sure to pay you again."

So how do you say this in German:

A sure-fire way to kill a rubber dome is to store the keyboard for a year or two with some keys pressed down, like if you keep it in a pile of stuff instead of a proper box. The domes will permanently collapse, or at least never feel the same. Otherwise, the capacitive rubber dome IBM I have is stil...

I like the 1800 layout, and applaud you for wanting this to happen. But I suspect that with GMK the new guy in town, people are reluctant to order from SP what is considered to be lower quality keycaps. Myself, I'm definitely waiting to see if a similar kit will be offered from GMK.
