Re: IBM Model F XT vs AT key stem smoothness

Hi I wonder if these are keycaps from UK vs USA manufacture. Are you able to see if it says that on the back labels of the keyboards? In general I've personally found IBM, sort of like ALPS, to often have slight variations across otherwise interchangeable parts. Often without any explanation. There ...

Re: Model F PING dampen methods comparison

Hi, that is an interesting method. I was more focused on a comparison to the floss method specifically targeting ping. Regardless If one wanted to reduce noise I imagine that would take away some of the upward click noise. I wonder if there is an audio comparison with the sealant. So I think that i...

how about a small blob of silicone sealant on the underside of the barrel assembly? I've got pretty good noise abatement out of that. There's even a post somewhere around.. Hi that is interesting. Re: IBM Model F typing sound comparison (capacitive buckling springs) (F XT, F AT, F122, F107...)

The Bigfoot sounds like shit !!!! Obnoxious! The bigfoot actually has a somewhat different case! It gives it a really neat sound. It's plastic case is extremely thick vs the case of the 122/AT and even the thicker XT case. It is much heavier than those cases and it gives it a different tone. It bot...

Model F PING dampen methods comparison

Hi, I will update this later today as I finish. I was thinking about this thread: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=23394 In terms of model F sound dampening. Then today I saw this thread with a discussion about the existing superfloss model F dampening: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.p...

Hi, could you post a clear picture of the wiring between the PCB and the DMA Commonsense controller?
Hi, I have it disassembled right now. But I will reassemble it for you soon.

I basically just used the wiring diagrams from the DMA thread. It is a very basic x and y matrix.

Re: Help cleaning F 107 pcb

Hi, I would use wet paper towels to wipe down the pcb. Try this a few times There is not much need to use alcohol to wipe down model f pcb in general. The switch assembly in general keeps all the dust and goo off of the capacitive pads. While gross, this means that most of the contamination inside d...

Hi, be extremely careful sending things to Unicomp. They are a great company and I like that they exist, but they will straight swap the entire module. If that doesn't matter to you, then proceed, otherwise don't. I would recommend you come to the Deskthority Discord chat channel. This is found just...

How about a Industrial IBM Model F? https://i.imgur.com/RZTpDWB.jpg Wow looks nice! I was trying to make this Red Selectric on a wheelwriter. The green does look nice, I'm not sure why they moved away from the Selectric colors. They added a lot of character, and could have easily fetched a premium if they made special edition Fs. Re: Do 'flat' or low profile keycaps exist for IBM buckling spring?

If you don't need the extra keys, you could always remove the keys and barrels in these positions giving you the clearence you want. Other than that, the flattest and most low profile bs caps must be the model m two piece caps running with the hat off. Took out some caps to give you an example On a...

Alternate Reality IBM colours

Hi, I was reading the Thinkpad book. "Thinkpad a different shade of blue." I had seen this section before about how in the late 1970s Germany introduced new workplace laws. These laws as well as other concerns basically resulted in most things being gray or off white. The relevant pages are here. al...
