At a time when a full-size Chinese "gaming" mechanical keyboard can be shipped to your door, for under $40, I don't see why we can't have a barebones full-size keyboard kit for at most, the same price. No RGB, edgy gamer keycaps, etc, just a simple PCB, mounting plate, and plastic case. Kind of lik...

I have yet to purchase the g81-3000, but indeed the case looks not bad. Very sadly i have not seen any g80-3000 at a good price recently. However I found an g80-1808 at around 60$. Is it worth the jump? They come with mx greens btw Holy moly that G80-1808 sounds like a great deal! MX Greens are ver...

It is not possible to replace MY switches. You can however swap a G80 (MX) PCB into that case and effectively turn it into a G80-3000 The most common variant of G80-3000s are MX blacks and they are medium weight linear switches. Heavier switches are commonly only available in clicks or tactile (MX G...

Could you, by any chance, find out what her favourite switche is? When I met my gf I gave her a bunch of keyboards to try and asked her to pick a favourite. Thank god it was a board with some nice ergo clears. There were two clicky boards in the bunch and I had some hydrogen peroxide and a tarp read...

I can't make it to mechanicon this year but HOPEFULLY can make it next year. Tempting. Looks like £230 to fly in for the day from Edinburgh (with a hold bag, natch) with Lufthansa. Which is more than I can swing for now. If you're still looking to go there next year, you can stay over at my place. A...

ANY source?

They actually do advertise using a "plastic polymer" for the housings:

But Nylon 6,6 sounds like there is some spec out there I have missed so far :(

Is there any source for the claim Cherry uses Nylon for their switch hosings?

I was wondering about that myself a while ago and only found a thread on GH discussing that with the conclusion that pretty much all switch manufacturers use POM for their housings.

But no one really had any source ...

Not me. But the caps, and to a lesser extent the PCB, look familiar. Honeywell / Micro Switch familiar. I could well be rusty, though. Clear indication it's an early Cherry board: 1) UncleFan is showing interest in the board 2) The big fat CHERRY logo on the PCB probably M8 switches. The caps are t...

The classic MX based design with a tactile bump in the slider effectively couples tactility and actuation.

This coupling has its limits though and people who expect a cripy click from their tactile switches will always be disapointed.

The problem with assembly service is the choice of switches. Most people in the custom game want to put in their hand modded, hand picked vintage switches. Chances are you'd have picked Kaihl BOX switches for your KBDfans assembly service effectively giving you a 300$ stem buster. When looking at ol...

Capacitive BS as a contact mechanism is clearly superior to even the gold plated crosspoint contacts. That reflects in the rating of the mechanisms at 100mil vs 50mil But the membrane BS is the IDENTICAL contact mechanism as Cherry MY rated at 25mil (IBM) or "up to 50mil" (Cherry) which is a differe...

I only have a handful of white BOX switches here that Oblotzky sent me and they all work fine.
