The bane of academic life: students citing Wikipedia. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo. One of the things about the keyboard on the Spectrum is that even though it was awful, it was a step up from the ZX-81: http://www.old-computers.com/museum/photos/sinclair_zx81_1s.jpg Which was about the same as the ZX-...

Does the Wiki have details/pics of these named families (SA, DCS, DSA)? I couldn't find any... just a couple of mentions.

Hmm, so are you proposing an adapter that will take a 'universal' keycap and adapt it to specific types of keyswitch? The problem with using existing Cherry-profile (or similar contoured) caps on a curved plane is exactly what you've described above - that angled adapters would not correct for the a...

What about the curve of the backplate though? Aren't IBM's plates curved, but Cherry plates flat? The profile of the keys would then be different, I'm guessing more scooped, unless the adapters took this into consideration and re-angled the caps to suit.

I'm definitely interested - very nice colours! Gloss SA I presume?
I would be enormously up for that. Very slight off-white, grey and black and red - my preferred colour scheme right now.

Wonderful :) I have a couple of DVDs someone made for me of two old BBC series from the same era - The Computer Programme and The Electronic Office. The latter is great, particularly the interviews with techies talking about how they're working on portable map computers for cars that will announce d...

Just took apart the Necam 96 keyboard: it's from 1984. Both PCBs are branded Neve , from the British company that made them. "Cam" is a point of confusion: Neve make audio equipment. From Neve's history page , they have (had?) operations in Cambridge. I suspect "cam" was added to differentiate. Eit...

+1 for trying them. Last time I bought a pair, I spent a while comparing about 6 or so and settled on some Beyer DT250 (not for music so much, so I don't recommend them here). I didn't like the HD25, partly for the sound, partly comfort; KRK are making them now, but I thought they were a bit forward...

I'd also like to try SMD diodes, don't know if they are cheaper. Unless you're making huge quantities, no. Typical 1N4148 etc are what, half a penny each if you grab a couple of hundred? As for shorts due to low clearance, just insert a thin layer of non-conductive material over the base plate. Nic...

Be aware the Beyers come in different impedance-rated models. For a small portable device like a phone or mp3 player, you want low impedance headphones so they drive optimally. From memory, Beyer offer 80 Ohm versions that should work better with those than the studio type 250 Ohm rated models. Lowe...

I've remapped a few of the lesser-used keys so Print Screen is now where Insert was, and its function is to screenshot a window. So I *kind of* still use it. I've remapped the old locations of print/scroll/pause to cut/copy/paste as sometimes I find that more convenient than the key combinations. I ...

I remember being pretty impressed by this one - bearing in mind this was the 48k version, so no multi-channel AY chip:
