Re: This was in the manual. Seriously...
I can't decide what is worst, the screwdriver to pop out the key or the adhesive advice, I bet many of you got heart attacks. I've actually used screwdrivers for precisely this purpose on a Model M and a Model F. It worked really well, and I didn't notice any kind of damage in either case. Model M ...

@emdude: No, I have not yet tried replacing the contact leaf. Thanks for the PM explaining more about the contact leaf and how to replace it. Do you happen to know which Alps switches (other than white, of course) could be used as donors of contact leaves that would work in a SKCM white Alps switch...

Re: What is the oldest keyboard in your collection?
My current oldest board would be my XT, the 5150 it came with has late 1982 dates on it, and the board is dated early 1983.

Some of the legends on my f xt look like that, but not as bad. The printing is sharp but they have that nasty yellow "halo" on them.

I for one like the stepped keys. it adds character.emdude wrote:@mike52787, personally, I think there are many things wrong with the XT layout, not just the stuff you've mentioned..
One of my biggest quibbles with it is that all of the wide keys are stepped, it's incredible.

Re: What layout do you use?
You brits are crazy, it seems the only bad parts of the xt layout are the only ones you kept xD vertical enter and split left shift are my 2 least favorite parts about my F XT. If by Brits you mean "basically everyone in Europe"... It was a joke, I was playing the part of the stupid american...

Yeah, Its pretty much that. I really like it. Unfortunately 6u alps spacebars are impossible to find, but I modded a focus spacebar to fit mine. it doesnt look good, but it works.shreebles wrote:That means, HHKB layout but with three more keys in the bottom row, like the infinity keyboard?mike52787 wrote: ↑infinity layout

Re: Magitronic keyboards
The top board in the 2nd picture is a Power User 105 ADB keyboard Nope. That is a AppleDesign keyboard - one of the varieties with 1u Alt/Option keys. You can identify it by the steps on the left and right sides behind the function key row. The Ortek Mac-105 /PowerUser 105 had "big-ass" Return keys...

So, time for a 2nd opinion. I have asked around on gh about the correct lube to use on blue alps (they were filthy, and In washing them, all the original lube came off. ) I have heard good things about Dupont Teflon Silicone lubricant, but its somewhat expensive, so I want to make sure its the righ...

The top board in the 2nd picture is a Power User 105 ADB keyboard, a aek clone with SKCM whites. I agree about the 2nd board in the first pic looking like it may have space invaders, probably black clicky ones.

Re: Sources for Cherry Vintage Black PCB Mount Variant?
g80-1800s and g80-3000s always have pcb mount switches, but im not sure those are the kind of boards you want to scrap for switches ) I am not a fan of cherry, so I cant help too much, but alot of older boards came with mx blacks, including alot of POS boards.
