Re: How important is programmability to you?
[…] The "N tilda" question is simply because users aren't paying any attention - I bet if they look at spanish keyboard (which they have laying around, no doubt) they'll see that key is marked "N/;" You are American, aren't you  Since October 28, 2022! I've seen Russian keyboards a lot, and ha...

Re: How important is programmability to you?
The problem with `:yw` is that if `:yx` is not mapped, what would you do? Retroactively type `:y`? But even single-key macros are a huge can of pretty nasty worms. [...] Much of the problem comes from the fact that people tend to think about "how to get [character] from the keyboard to the screen",...

Re: Matias makes a mouse
Ok, question for people reading this thread. I'm a very simple mouse user. I like 3 buttons and a scroll wheel. I see a lot of complaints about this mouse not having back and forward buttons. I've never used back and forward buttons on a mouse. I always just use Ctrl/⌘+ → or Ctrl/⌘ + ←. Do you use ...

Re: Return to office
How the hell do people think it is appropriate to do conference calls in an open floor plan office? A proper office should have small rooms especially for doing meetings, phone calls — and conference calls! For all the shiRt cubicles used to get, they were good at reducing the amount of ambient noi...

Re: Return to office
In my job, up to March 2020 B.P., we had an office with an "open floor plan" (plus a ears-sensitive cow orker, albeit not a gossipy git), so my set-up included a WASD keyboard, modified to make it as silent as possible. Every now and then I'd bring a Model M or a pingmaster keyboard for the day, jus...

Re: How important is programmability to you?
On a "custom" keyboard is a must, for the obvious reason. On a regular keyboard I used to find it to be "quite useful" instead of "unavoidably vital", as most key assignments were already there, and one just needed to make a few adjustments (move AltGr into its proper spot in "modern bottom row" key...

I'm in both DT's Discord Server and IRC channel on Libera, but in-case someone doesn't have Discord, we can exchange emails perhaps. As you may imagine: live text is much too addictive for me. We should have some way to keep in touch if DT goes dark, though. Preferably a ready-to-roll full co...

I think it's been over a year since my last update. I have been working on refactoring of pandrew's QMK firmware for inclusion into the QMK official repo. This is definitely an area where one's size and build and personal usage patterns matter. My hands are big, too, but in my case, the larger the mouse, the better, instead of the other way around. mouseandhand.jpg Since I tend to fully rest my hand on the mouse, a "regular-sized" unit is too small an...

Hard to disagree with that! The fact that AltGr is only on one side of the keyboard is a TOTAL pest.Findecanor wrote: ↑23 Sep 2022, 16:55The Alt key should never have been co-opted for use for anything other than additional graphic characters.

Re: The Tactile Pro has a hidden switch that lets you swap the Caps Lock and Control keys
Right Control is a fever dream and a hoax! What a superfluous key. You’ll be praising SysRq next. ;) SysRq, back in the day, was quite useful. Pissing contests aside, Right Control is a highly necessary modifier — most of the CUA commands (Ctrl-Z,X,C,V,A,E,W, ...) are quite, quite more comfortable ...

Always a nice sign when a board invites you to put Control back to where it should be. Old (but not old enough) boomers  don't understand the importance of symmetrical modifier keys. Pray tell me, if LCTRL should be where Caps Lock ( Shift Lock before that, and for a mechanical reason, BTW...

Please just tell me already please i Best is subjective and depends on the tasks it needs to perform. I really like my Moonlander, but any boards focused on ergonomics are good. Anyone working with numbers a lot is going to want a dedicated keypad, but that can be external. Also I really like the Q...

Having Fn on the left is a ThinkPad tradition, so I don't think that is bad if the convention is consistent. You can get used to it if a ThinkPad is your workhorse. (Personally I map Ctrl on Caps Lock anyway, so I'm not bothered) As you mention below, it ain't consistent... and it still sucks, IMNA...

Displaced LCtrl key. It's supposed to be in the CORNER! I have had a T440p for some years and it is a great little machine. But wait, there's more! I had to go into the UEFI, to get the F keys to behave as F keys (another industry-wide shenanigan), and noticed that the UEFI allows me to select a pre-OS national layout, from a list of 27 options: English (United States) Canadian French Multilingual Canadian French Spanis...
