Oh man I can't believe I missed this. Would be in for an R2 if you decide to run another group buy. I am preparing for a second round, if interested please leave the amount of switches you'd like and I'll get everyone invoiced (most likely) early next week. Awesome. Put me down for 140 switches 8-)

Thanks guys. I'm loving the lower height, angle and built in wrist rest on the 3278. It's much more comfortable vs the 5251 (although I am a bit more productive on the 5251 due to the layout). I think a low profile shell for the 5251 would be even better if it eventually comes into fruition.

Cyrillic IBM 3278 Beamspring Restoration

Just finished up the restoration. I should probably wash the switches but will probably kick that can down the road for now. Overall it came out nice. The solenoid was not working at first so I gave it a few taps and to my surprise it started firing again. The layout is taking some getting used to. ...

This beamspring looks very familiar! I think I sold one of these about 2 years ago to someone, but don't remember who to! Excellent restore for sure! Any plans to potentially repaint the top case? Hey! Yep I got this from you about 2 years ago, and I thank you. I do plan on redoing the top case, I ...

Really curious to see a shot from underneath the desk(to see how much room the switches and inner assembly take up). Great job with this btw it looks brand new. Love the retro futuristic styling 8-) Did you take a look at the more pictures spoiler link? Ok, wow. I didn't recognize it at first. Look...

From the pictures of the F77, the cable is not removable, right? I will probably get a coiled cable too and I want to make sure I pick the right one. It's my understanding that the F77 just uses an xwhatsit so a micro USB cable will work just fine. Micro usb or mini usb? The Xwhatsit on my 5251 has...

None of them feel like Topre 55 IMO. The closest would probably be the "Holy Panda" franken switch (Halo Clear/True stem in Panda housing). Holy Pandas feel more mechanical and responsive vs Topre 55g and lack the "wet clay" bottom out from the rubber domes. They are closer to SKCM Brown Alps but wi...

Congrats, will you be doing a build thread? I'm curious to see what the inside of that beamspring look like. I'll miss seeing your haiku on overpriced beamsprings. Yes, there will be a build thread. I didn't, but I hope someone here did for a low price, and will document the restoration.
It went for $415. I may buy some of the caps If the buyer wants to part it out.

It looks like something very hot was laying on top of it for a bit..like maybe a light or something and it was inches above the door cover. You could probably salvage at least 50 beam spring switches from that keyboard. Some keycaps too. Sell them on the echo bay for profit. :evilgeek: I wouldn't bet on that. At that price I will just go with selectric :D I just need a few because my cap mounts are breaking down a bit

I think the equalibrium price of popular boards like Model Ms/SSKs, Blue Alps and Beamsprings will all go up over time. If you think about it, this hobby is still in its infancy. Increasing numbers of review/typing videos, meet ups and sites like Massdrop are spreading awareness. IMO it was Chyrosra...

But why should you reproduce a switch which needs a condom to not get influenced by dust and an extra table because the keyboard is so high? These boards will always remain a niche thing because they are just not usable at all compared to most other keyboards. The switches don't need a contaminatio...

Nor will demand continuously increase. The community is far larger than it was a few years ago, sure, but if we assume Reddit to be a benchmark for the number of people in the community (250,000 on Reddit), it is still minuscule compared to the number of computer users. Let's assume an upper limit ...

I would love to see a modern beam spring reproduction. It seems like it could be done using the xwhatsit controller and pcb design based off of emdudes work.
